Joel · KJV Cambridge Paragraph

Joel 2

Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: 1 Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: 1 For the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand; 1

A day of darkness and of gloominess, 1 A day of clouds and of thick darkness, 1 As the morning spread upon the mountains: 1 A great people and a strong; 1 There hath not been ever the like, 1 Neither shall be any more after it, 1 Even to the years of many generations. 1

A fire devoureth before them; 1 And behind them a flame burneth: 1 The land is as the garden of Eden before them, 1 And behind them a desolate wilderness; 1 Yea, and nothing shall escape them. 1

The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; 1 And as horsemen, so shall they run. 1

Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, 1 Like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, 1 As a strong people set in battle array. 1

Before their face the people shall be much pained: 1 All faces shall gather blackness. 1

They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; 1 And they shall march every one on his ways, 1 And they shall not break their ranks: 1

Neither shall one thrust another; 1 They shall walk every one in his path: 1 And when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded. 1

They shall run to and fro in the city; 1 They shall run upon the wall, 1 They shall climb up upon the houses; 1 They shall enter in at the windows like a thief. 1

The earth shall quake before them; 1 The heavens shall tremble: 1 The sun and the moon shall be dark, 1 And the stars shall withdraw their shining: 1

And the Lord shall utter his voice before his army: 1 For his camp is very great: 1 For he is strong that executeth his word: 1 For the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; 1 And who can abide it? 1

Therefore also now, saith the Lord, 1 Turn ye even to me with all your heart, 1 And with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: 1

And rent your heart, and not your garments, 1 And turn unto the Lord your God: 1 For he is gracious and merciful, 1 Slow to anger, and of great kindness, 1 And repenteth him of the evil. 1

Who knoweth if he will return and repent, 1 And leave a blessing behind him; 1 Even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the Lord your God? 1

Blow the trumpet in Zion, 1 Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: 1

Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, 1 Gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: 1 Let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. 1

Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar, 1 And let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord, 1 And give not thine heritage to reproach, 1 That the heathen should rule over them: 1 Wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God? 1

Then will the Lord be jealous for his land, 1 And pity his people. 1

Yea, the Lord will answer and say unto his people, 1 Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, 1 And ye shall be satisfied therewith: 1 And I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen: 1

But I will remove far off from you the northern army, 1 And will drive him into a land barren and desolate, 1 With his face toward the east sea, 1 And his hinder part towards the utmost sea, 1 And his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, 1 Because he hath done great things. 1

Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: 1 For the Lord will do great things. 1

Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: 1 For the pastures of the wilderness do spring, 1 For the tree beareth her fruit, 1 The fig tree and the vine do yield their strength. 1

Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: 1 For he hath given you the former rain moderately, 1 And he will cause to come down for you the rain, 1 The former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. 1

And the floors shall be full of wheat, 1 And the fats shall overflow with wine and oil. 1

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, 1 The cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, 1 My great army which I sent among you. 1

And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, 1 And praise the name of the Lord your God, 1 That hath dealt wondrously with you: 1 And my people shall never be ashamed. 1

And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, 1 And that I am the Lord your God, and none else: 1 And my people shall never be ashamed. 1

And it shall come to pass afterward, 1 That I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; 1 And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 1 Your old men shall dream dreams, 1 Your young men shall see visions: 1

And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids 1 In those days will I pour out my spirit. 1

And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, 1 Blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 1

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, 1 Before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come. 1

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: 1 For in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, 1 As the Lord hath said, 1 And in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.
