Judges 5
1Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying, 1
2Praise ye the Lord for the avenging of Israel, 1 When the people willingly offered themselves. 1
3Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; 1 I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; 1 I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel. 1
4Lord, when thou wentest out of Seir, 1 When thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, 1 The earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, 1 The clouds also dropped water. 1
5The mountains melted from before the Lord, 1 Even that Sinai from before the Lord God of Israel. 1
6In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, 1 In the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, 1 And the travellers walked through byways. 1
7The inhabitants of the villages ceased, they ceased in Israel, 1 Until that I Deborah arose, 1 That I arose a mother in Israel. 1
8They chose new gods; 1 Then was war in the gates: 1 Was there a shield or spear seen 1 Among forty thousand in Israel? 1
9My heart is toward the governors of Israel, 1 That offered themselves willingly among the people. 1 Bless ye the Lord. 1
10Speak, ye that ride on white asses, 1 Ye that sit in judgment, 1 And walk by the way. 1
11They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, 1 There shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the Lord, 1 Even the righteous acts towards the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: 1 Then shall the people of the Lord go down to the gates. 1
12Awake, awake, Deborah: 1 Awake, awake, utter a song: 1 Arise, Barak, 1 And lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam. 1
13Then he made him that remaineth have dominion over the nobles among the people: 1 The Lord made me have dominion over the mighty. 1
14Out of Ephraim was there a root of them against Amalek; 1 After thee, Benjamin, among thy people; 1 Out of Machir came down governors, 1 And out of Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer. 1
15And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah; 1 Even Issachar, and also Barak: 1 He was sent on foot into the valley. 1 For the divisions of Reuben there were great thoughts of heart. 1
16Why abodest thou among the sheepfolds, 1 To hear the bleatings of the flocks? 1 For the divisions of Reuben there were great searchings of heart. 1
17Gilead abode beyond Jordan: 1 And why did Dan remain in ships? 1 Asher continued on the sea shore, 1 And abode in his breaches. 1
18Zebulun and Naphtali were a people that jeoparded their lives unto the death 1 In the high places of the field. 1
19The kings came and fought, 1 Then fought the kings of Canaan 1 In Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; 1 They took no gain of money. 1
20They fought from heaven; 1 The stars in their courses fought against Sisera. 1
21The river of Kishon swept them away, 1 That ancient river, the river Kishon. 1 O my soul, thou hast trodden down strength. 1
22Then were the horsehoofs broken by the means of the pransings, 1 The pransings of their mighty ones. 1
23Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the Lord, 1 Curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; 1 Because they came not to the help of the Lord, 1 To the help of the Lord against the mighty. 1
24Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, 1 Blessed shall she be above women in the tent. 1
25He asked water, and she gave him milk; 1 She brought forth butter in a lordly dish. 1
26She put her hand to the nail, 1 And her right hand to the workmen’s hammer; 1 And with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote off his head, 1 When she had pierced and stricken through his temples. 1
27At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: 1 At her feet he bowed, he fell: 1 Where he bowed, there he fell down dead. 1
28The mother of Sisera looked out at a window, 1 And cried through the lattice, 1 Why is his chariot so long in coming? 1 Why tarry the wheels of his chariots? 1
29Her wise ladies answered her, 1 Yea, she returned answer to herself, 1
30Have they not sped? have they not divided the prey; 1 To every man a damsel or two; 1 To Sisera a prey of divers colours, 1 A prey of divers colours of needlework, 1 Of divers colours of needlework on both sides, 1 Meet for the necks of them that take the spoil? 1
31So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: 1 But let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.
