Ezekiel 19

Moreover take thou up a kinah (lament) for the nasi'im of Yisroel,

And say: 1 What is immecha, a lioness? 1 She lay down among arayot (lions), 1 rearing her cubs among young lions. 1

And she brought up one of her cubs; 1 it became a strong lion, 1 and it learned to tear teref (prey); 1 it devoured adam. 1

The Goyim also heard of him; 1 he was trapped in their shachat (pit), 1 and they brought him with hooks 1 unto Eretz Mitzrayim. 1

Now when she saw that in vain she had waited, 1 and her tikvah (hope) was lost, 1 then she took another of her cubs, 1 and made him a strong lion. 1

And he went up and down among the arayot (lions), 1 he became a strong lion, 1 and learned to tear the teref, 1 and devoured adam. 1

And he destroyed their strongholds, 1 and he laid waste their towns; 1 and eretz and the fulness thereof became desolate, 1 through the sound of his roaring. 1

Then the Goyim set against him 1 on every side from the medinot (provinces), 1 and spread their reshet (net) over him; 1 he was trapped in their shachat (pit). + 19:8 trap 1

And they put him in a neckstock with hooks, 1 and brought him to Melech Bavel; 1 they brought him into metzodot (fortresses), 1 that his voice should no more be heard 1 upon the harim of Yisroel. 1

Immecha is like a gefen (vine) full of shoots, 1 planted by the mayim; 1 she was fruitful and full of branches 1 by reason of mayim rabbim. 1

And she had strong branches 1 that became the shivtei moshlim (scepters of rulers), 1 and her stature towered 1 above the thick branches, 1 and she was seen in her height 1 amid the dense branches. 1

But she was uprooted in chemah (fury), 1 she was cast down to the ground, 1 and the east wind dried up her p'ri; 1 her strong branches were broken and withered; 1 the eish consumed them. 1

And now she is planted in the midbar, 1 in a dry and thirsty eretz. 1

And eish is gone out of a rod of her branches, 1 which hath devoured her p'ri, 1 so that she hath no strong branch 1 to be a shevet (sceptre) to rule. 1 This is a kinah lament, 1 and shall be for a funeral dirge.
