Lamentations 1
How the 2 that was full of people! 1 She has become as a widow, 2 who was great among the nations! 1 She who was a princess among the provinces 2 has become a slave! 1
She 2 Her tears are on her cheeks. 1 Among all her lovers 2 she has no one to comfort her. 1 All her friends have dealt treacherously with her. 2 They have become her enemies. 1
Judah 2 and because of great servitude. 1 She dwells among the nations. 2 She finds no rest. 2 All her persecutors overtook her in her distress. 1
The 2 because no one comes to the solemn assembly. 1 All her gates are desolate. 2 Her priests sigh. 1 Her virgins are afflicted, 2 and she herself is in bitterness. 1
Her 2 Her enemies prosper; 1 for the LORD + 1:5 When rendered in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS, “LORD” or “GOD” is the translation of God’s Proper Name. has afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions. 2 Her young children have gone into captivity before the adversary. 1
All 2 Her princes have become like deer that find no pasture. 2 They have gone without strength before the pursuer. 1
Jerusalem 2 all her pleasant things that were from the days of old; 1 when her people fell into the hand of the adversary, 2 and no one helped her. 1 The adversaries saw her. 2 They mocked at her desolations. 1
Jerusalem 2 Therefore she has become unclean. 1 All who honored her despise her, 2 because they have seen her nakedness. 2 Yes, she sighs and turns backward. 1
Her 2 She didn’t remember her latter end. 1 Therefore she has come down astoundingly. 2 She has no comforter. 1 “ See, LORD, my affliction; 2 for the enemy has magnified himself.” 1
The 2 for she has seen that the nations have entered into her sanctuary, 2 concerning whom you commanded that they should not enter into your assembly. 1
All 2 They seek bread. 2 They have given their pleasant things for food to refresh their soul. 1 “ Look, LORD, and see, 2 for I have become despised.” 1
“ Is 2 Look, and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, 2 which is brought on me, 2 with which the LORD has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger. 1
“ From 2 and it prevails against them. 1 He has spread a net for my feet. 2 He has turned me back. 2 He has made me desolate and I faint all day long. 1
“ The 2 They are knit together. 2 They have come up on my neck. 2 He made my strength fail. 1 The Lord + 1:14 The word translated “Lord” (mixed case) is “Adonai.” has delivered me into their hands, 2 against whom I am not able to stand. 1
“ The 2 He has called a solemn assembly against me to crush my young men. 2 The Lord has trodden the virgin daughter of Judah as in a wine press. 1
“ For 2 My eye, my eye runs down with water, 2 because the comforter who should refresh my soul is far from me. 1 My children are desolate, 2 because the enemy has prevailed.” 1
Zion 2 There is no one to comfort her. 1 The LORD has commanded concerning Jacob, 2 that those who are around him should be his adversaries. 2 Jerusalem is among them as an unclean thing. 1
“ The 2 for I have rebelled against his commandment. 1 Please hear all you peoples, 2 and see my sorrow. 2 My virgins and my young men have gone into captivity. 1
“ I 2 but they deceived me. 1 My priests and my elders gave up the spirit in the city, 2 while they sought food for themselves to refresh their souls. 1
“ Look 2 My heart is troubled. 1 My heart turns over within me, 2 for I have grievously rebelled. 1 Abroad, the sword bereaves. 2 At home, it is like death. 1
“ They 2 There is no one to comfort me. 1 All my enemies have heard of my trouble. 2 They are glad that you have done it. 1 You will bring the day that you have proclaimed, 2 and they will be like me. 1
“Let all 2 Do to them as you have done to me for all my transgressions. 1 For my sighs are many, 2 and my heart is faint.
