Lamentations 2
How hath Adonoi covered Bat Tziyon 1 with a cloud in His anger, 1 and hurled down from Shomayim 1 unto Eretz the tiferet Yisroel, 1 and remembered not His hadom (footstool) 1 in the Day of His Wrath! 1
Adonoi hath swallowed up 1 all the habitations of Ya'akov, and hath not pitied; 1 He hath torn down in His Wrath 1 the strongholds of Bat Yehudah; 1 He hath brought them down to the ground; 1 chillel (He hath defiled) the mamlachah and the sarim (princes) thereof. 1
He hath cut off in His fierce anger 1 kol keren Yisroel; 1 He hath drawn back His right hand 1 from before the oyev, 1 and He burned against Ya'akov like a flaming eish, 1 which devoureth all around. 1
He hath bent His keshet (bow) like an oyev; 1 He took His stand with His right hand as an adversary, 1 and slaughtered all that were pleasant 1 to the eye in the ohel Bat Tziyon; 1 He poured out His fury like eish. 1
Adonoi was like an oyev; 1 He hath swallowed up Yisroel, 1 He hath swallowed up all her armonot (palaces); 1 He hath destroyed His strongholds, 1 and hath increased in Bat Yehudah mourning and lamentation. 1
And He hath violently destroyed His sukkah, 1 as if it were of a gan (garden); 1 He hath laid waste His Mo'ed; 1 Hashem hath caused Mo'ed and Shabbos 1 to be forgotten in Tziyon, 1 and in the indignation of His anger 1 hath spurned Melech and Kohen. 1
Adonoi hath cast off His Mizbe'ach, 1 He hath disowned His Mikdash, 1 He hath given up into the yad oyev 1 the chomot armonot of hers; 1 they have raised shouts in the Beis Hashem, 1 as in the Yom Mo'ed. 1
Hashem hath purposed to destroy 1 the Chomat Bat Tziyon; 1 He hath stretched out a measuring line, 1 He hath not withdrawn His hand from destroying; 1 therefore He made the rampart and the chomah to lament; 1 they languished together. 1
Her she'arim are sunk into the ground; 1 He hath destroyed and broken her bars; 1 her melech and her sarim (princes) are among the Goyim; 1 the torah is no more; 1 her nevi'im also find no chazon (vision) from Hashem. 1
The Ziknei Bat Tziyon sit upon the ground, 1 and keep silence; 1 they have cast up aphar upon their heads; 1 they have girded themselves with sackcloth; 1 the Betulot Yerushalayim hang down 1 their heads to the ground. 1
Mine eyes do fail from weepings, 1 my insides are troubled, 1 empty and poured upon ha'aretz, 1 for the destruction of Bat Ami; 1 because the olel and the infant 1 swoon in the rechovot of the city. 1
They say to their imahot: 1 Where is grain and yayin? 1 Say they when they swooned like the wounded 1 in the rechovot Ir, 1 when their nefesh ebbed away 1 into the kheyk imahot of them. 1
What thing shall I say to thee? 1 What thing shall I liken to thee, O Bat Yerushalayim? 1 What shall I equal to thee, that I may comfort thee, 1 O Betulat Bat Tziyon? 1 For thy shever (destruction) is as gadol as the yam. 1 Who can heal thee? 1
Thy nevi'im have seen false 1 and worthless visions for thee; 1 and they have not exposed thine avon, 1 to ward off thy captivity; 1 but have seen for thee mase'ot shav 1 and madduchim (false and misleading burdens, oracles). 1
All that pass by clap their hands at thee; 1 they hiss and wag their head at Bat Yerushalayim, 1 saying: Is this the Ir that men call 1 Kelilat Yofi Masos L'Khol HaAretz 1 (perfection in beauty, the joy of the whole earth)? 1
All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee; 1 they hiss and gnash their teeth; 1 they cry: We have swallowed her! 1 This is the Yom that we waited for; 1 we have found, we have seen it. 1
Hashem hath done that which He had devised; 1 He hath fulfilled His word 1 that He decreed in the yemai kedem; 1 He hath overthrown, and hath not pitied, 1 and He hath caused thine oyev to gloat over thee, 1 He hath exalted the keren of thine adversaries. 1
Their lev cried unto Adonoi: 1 O Chomat Bat Tziyon, 1 let tears run down like a river yomam valailah; 1 give thyself no relief; 1 let not thine eye rest. 1
Arise, cry out balailah; 1 in the beginning of the night watches 1 pour out thine lev like mayim 1 before the face of Adonoi; 1 lift up thy hands to Him 1 for the nefesh of thy ollelim, 1 that faint for hunger on every street corner. 1
Look, Hashem, and consider 1 to whom Thou hast done this. 1 Shall the nashim eat their offspring, 1 the children they have cared for? 1 Shall the Kohen and the Navi 1 be slain in the Mikdash Adonoi? 1
The na'ar and the zaken lie 1 in the dust of the streets; 1 my betulot and my bochurim 1 are fallen by the cherev; 1 Thou hast slain them in the Day of Thy Wrath; 1 Thou hast slaughtered, and not pitied. 1
Thou hast summoned as in a Yom Mo'ed 1 my terrors all around, 1 so that in the Yom Af Hashem 1 none escaped nor remained; 1 those that I have swaddled and reared 1 hath mine oyev consumed.
