Nahum 2
Hinei, upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth Besorah (Good News), 1 that publisheth Shalom! 1 O Yehudah, keep thy chagim, 1 fulfill thy nedarim; 1 for the Beliya'al shall no more pass through thee; 1 he is utterly cut off. 1
A shatterer + 2:2 Ninevehʼs overpowering enemy is come up before thy face [O Nineveh]; 1 guard thy fortress, watch the derech, 1 fortify thy loins, marshal all thy koach (power). 1
For Hashem is about to restore the eminence of Ya'akov, 1 like the eminence of Yisroel; 1 for plunderers have plundered them, 1 and made their vine branches as shachat. 1
The mogen (shield) of his gibborim is made red, 1 the anshei chayil (valiant men) are in scarlet; 1 the chariot shall flash like fire 1 in the day of its array, 1 and the spears shall be brandished. 1
The chariot shall rage in the streets, 1 they shall jostle one against another in the rechovot, 1 they shall seem like flaming torches, 1 they shall dart about like the lightnings. 1
He + 2:6 the Assyrian king shall remember his mighty ones; 1 they stumble in their walk; 1 they shall make haste to the chomah (wall) of it, + 2:6 Nineveh 1 and the defense shall be prepared. 1
The sha'arei haneharot (the gates of the rivers) shall be thrown open, 1 and the heikhal (palace) reels. 1
Her + 2:8 Ninevehʼs golus (exile) is decreed, she shall be carried away, 1 her slave girls moaning like the kol yonim (voice of doves), 1 beating their breasts. 1
But Nineveh is like a pool of mayim; 1 and her mayim is draining away. 1 Stop, stop, shall they cry; 1 but no one turns back. 1
Take ye the plunder of kesef, take the plunder of zahav; 1 for there is no end of the treasures, 1 heaps of kol keli chemdah (every delightful vessel). 1
She is empty, and void, and stripped; 1 and the lev melteth, 1 and the knees give way, 1 bodies tremble, 1 and the faces of them all grow pale. 1
Where is the ma'on arayot (den of lions), 1 and the feeding place of the young lions, 1 where the aryeh, even the lioness, 1 walked with their cubs, and none made them afraid? 1
The aryeh did tear in pieces enough for his cubs, 1 and strangled for his lionesses, 1 and filled his lairs with prey, 1 and his dens with torn flesh.
Hineni, I am against thee [O Nineveh], saith Hashem Tzva'os, and I will burn your chariots in the smoke, and the cherev shall devour thy young lions; and I will cut off thy prey from ha'aretz, and the voice of thy malachim (messengers) shall no more be heard.
