Zephaniah 2
Gather yourselves together, 1 yea, gather together, O shameful nation; 1
Before the decree brings forth, 1 before the day passes like the chaff, 1 before the charon af Hashem comes upon you, 1 before the Yom Af Hashem (Day of Hashem ʼs Anger) comes upon you; 1
Seek ye Hashem, all ye anvei ha'aretz (humble of the land), 1 which have wrought His mishpat; 1 seek tzedek, seek anavah (meekness, humility); 1 it may be ye shall be hid in the Yom Af Hashem. 1
For Azah (Gaza) shall be abandoned, 1 and Ashkelon a desolation; 1 they shall drive out Ashdod in broad day, 1 and Ekron shall be uprooted. 1
Hoy (Woe) unto the inhabitants of the seacoast, 1 the nation of the Keretim (Cretans)! 1 The Devar Hashem is against you, 1 O Kena'an, eretz of the Pelishtim (Philistines). 1 I will even destroy thee, 1 that there no inhabitant remains. 1
And the seacoast shall be dwellings 1 and meadows for ro'im (shepherds), and pens for tzon. 1
And the coast shall be 1 for the she'erit Bais Yehudah; 1 they shall feed thereupon; 1 in the batim (houses) of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the erev; 1 for Hashem Eloheichem shall visit them, 1 and restore their fortunes. 1
I have heard the reproach of Moav, 1 and the revilings of the Bnei Ammon, 1 whereby they have reproached My nation, 1 and magnified themselves against their territory. 1
Therefore as I live, 1 saith Hashem Tzva'os, Elohei Yisroel: 1 Surely Moav shall be as Sodom, 1 and the Bnei Ammon as Amora (Gomorrah), 1 a place of weeds and salt pits, 1 and desolation ad olam; 1 the She'erit Ami shall plunder them, 1 and the remnant of My nation shall possess them. 1
This shall they have in return for their ga'on (pride), 1 because they have reproached and magnified themselves 1 against the Am Hashem Tzva'os. 1
Hashem will be terrible unto them; 1 for He will reduce to nothing all the elohei ha'aretz (g-ds of the land); 1 and men shall worship Hashem, everyone from his place, 1 even all the coasts and islands of the Goyim. 1
Ye Ethiopians also, 1 ye shall be slain by My cherev. 1
And Hashem will stretch out His hand against the tzafon (north), 1 and destroy Assyria; 1 and will make Nineveh a desolation, 1 a dry waste like a midbar. 1
And herds shall lie down in the midst of it, 1 every beast of the Goy; 1 both the desert owl and the screech owl 1 will roost on her columns; 1 their voice shall hoot in the windows; 1 desolation shall be in the thresholds; 1 the beams of cedar will be exposed. 1
This is HaIr HaAlizah (the rejoicing city) that dwelt carelessly, 1 that said in her lev: 1 I am, and there is none beside me; 1 how is she become a desolation, 1 a place for beasts to lie down in! 1 Every one that passeth by her 1 shall hiss, and shake his fist.
