Deuteronomy 32
Sh'ma ·Hear obey·, oh heavens, and I will speak! 2 Let the earth hear the words of my mouth! 1
My doctrine will drop as the rain. 2 My speech will condense as the dew, 2 as the misty rain on the tender grass, 2 as the showers on the herb. 1
For I will proclaim Adonai’s name. 2 Ascribe greatness to our God! 1
The Rock, his work is perfect, 2 for all his ways are mishpat ·just·. 2 A God of faithfulness who does no wrong, 2 just and right is he. 1
They have dealt corruptly with him. 2 They are not his children, because of their defect. 2 They are a perverse and crooked generation. + 32:5. Quoted in Phil 2:15 1
Is this the way you repay Adonai, 2 foolish and unwise people? 1 Is not he your father who has bought you? 2 He has made you and established you. 1 (2)
Remember the days of old. 2 Consider the years of many generations. 1 Ask your father, and he will show you; 2 your elders, and they will tell you. 1
When haElyon [the Most High] gave to the nations their inheritance, 2 when he separated the children of men, 1 he set the bounds of the peoples 2 according to the number of the children of Israel [God prevails]. 1
For Adonai’s portion is his people. 2 Jacob [Supplanter] is the lot of his inheritance. 1
He found him in a desert land, 2 in the waste howling wilderness. 1 He surrounded him. 2 He cared for him. 2 He kept him as the apple of his eye. 1
As an eagle that stirs up her nest, 2 that flutters over her young, 1 he spread abroad his wings, 2 he took them, 2 he bore them on his feathers. 1
Adonai alone led him. 2 There was no foreign deity with him. 1 (3)
He made him ride on the high places of the earth. 2 He ate the increase of the field. 1 He caused him to suck honey out of the rock, 2 oil out of the flinty rock; 1
butter from the herd, and milk from the flock, 2 with fat of lambs, 2 rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, 2 with the finest of the wheat. 2 From the blood of the grape, you drank wine. 1
But Jeshurun [Upright one] grew fat, and kicked. 2 You have grown fat. 2 You have grown thick. 2 You have become sleek. 1 Then he abandoned God who made him, 2 and rejected the Rock of his yishu'ah ·salvation·. 1
They moved him to jealousy with strange deities. 2 They provoked him to anger with abominations. 1
They sacrificed to demons, not God, + 32:17. Quoted in 1 Cor 10:20 2 to deities that they didn’t know, 2 to new deities that came up recently, 2 which your fathers didn’t dread. 1
Of the Rock who became your father, you are unmindful, 2 and have forgotten God who gave you birth. 1 (4)
Adonai saw and abhorred, 2 because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters. 1
He said, “I will hide my face from them. 2 I will see what their end will be; 1 for they are a very perverse generation, 2 children in whom is no faithfulness. 1
They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God. 2 They have provoked me to anger with their vanities. 1 I will provoke them to jealousy with those who are not a people. 2 I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation. + 32:21. Quoted in Rom 10:19, 11:11 1
For a fire is kindled in my anger, 2 that burns to the lowest Sheol ·Place of the dead·, 2 devours the earth with its increase, 2 and sets the foundations of the mountains on fire. 1
“I will heap evils on them. 2 I will spend my arrows on them. 1
They shall be wasted with hunger, 2 and devoured with burning heat 2 and bitter destruction. 1 I will send the teeth of animals on them, 2 with the venom of vipers that glide in the dust. 1
Outside the sword will bereave, 2 and in the rooms, terror; 1 on both young man and virgin, 2 the nursing infant with the gray-haired man. 1
I said that I would scatter them afar. 2 I would make their memory to cease from among men; 1
were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, 2 lest their adversaries should judge wrongly, 2 lest they should say, ‘Our hand is exalted, 2 Adonai has not done all this.’” 1
For they are a nation void of counsel. 2 There is no understanding in them. 1 (5)
Oh that they were wise, that they understood this, 2 that they would consider their latter end! 1
How could one chase a thousand, 2 and two put ten thousand to flight, 1 unless their Rock had sold them, 2 and Adonai had delivered them up? 1
For their rock is not as our Rock, 2 even our enemies themselves concede. 1
For their vine is of the vine of Sodom [Burning], 2 of the fields of Gomorrah [Rebellious people, Tyrants]. 1 Their grapes are poison grapes. 2 Their clusters are bitter. 1
Their wine is the poison of serpents, 2 the cruel venom of asps. 1
“Is not this laid up in store with me, 2 sealed up among my treasures? 1
Vengeance and recompense is mine, + 32:35. Quoted in Rom 12:19 2 at the time when their foot slides; 1 for the day of their calamity is at hand. 2 Their doom rushes at them.” 1
For Adonai will judge his people, + 32:36. (35-36) Quoted in Heb 10:30 2 and have compassion on his servants, 1 when he sees that their power is gone; 2 that there is no one remaining, shut up or left at large. 1
He will say, “Where are their deities, 2 the rock in which they took refuge; 1
which ate the fat of their sacrifices, 2 + 32:38. Deut 32:38 (Deut 32:35-39) (#2b.187): Not to drink wine offered to idols and drank the wine of their drink offering? 1 Let them rise up and help you! 2 Let them be your protection. 1
“See now that I myself am he. 2 There is no elohim ·deity· with me. 1 I kill and I make alive. 2 I wound and I heal. 2 There is no one who can deliver out of my hand. 1 (6)
For I lift up my hand to heaven and declare, 2 as I live forever, + 32:40. Quoted in Rev 10:5-6 1
if I sharpen my glittering sword, 2 my hand grasps it in judgment; 1 I will take vengeance on my adversaries, 2 and will repay + 32:41. Quoted in Rom 12:19 those who hate me. 1
I will make my arrows drunk with blood. 2 My sword shall devour flesh with the blood of the slain and the captives, 2 from the head of the leaders of the enemy.” 1
Rejoice, you nations, with his people, + 32:43. Quoted in Rom 15:10 2 for he will avenge the blood of his servants. 2 He will take vengeance on his adversaries, 2 and will make atonement for his land and for his people. (7)
Moses [Drawn out] came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he and Joshua [Yah Salvation] the son of Nun.
Moses [Drawn out] finished reciting all these words to all Israel [God prevails].
He said to them, “Set your heart to all the words which I testify to you today, which you shall enjoin your children to observe to do, all the words of this Torah ·Teaching·.
For it is no vain thing for you; because it is your life, and through this thing you shall prolong your days in the land, where you go over the Jordan [Descender] to possess it.” (Maftir)
Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out] that same day, saying,
“Go up into this mountain of Abarim, to Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab [From father], that is across from Jericho [Fragrant, Moon]; and see the land of Canaan [Humbled], which I give to the children of Israel [God prevails] for a possession.
Die on the mountain where you go up, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron [Light-bringer] your brother died on Mount Hor, and was gathered to his people;
because you trespassed against me among the children of Israel [God prevails] at the waters of Meribah [Quarreling] of Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because you didn’t uphold my holiness among the children of Israel [God prevails].
For you shall see the land from a distance; but you shall not go there into the land which I give the children of Israel [God prevails].” 1 Haftarah Ha'azinu ·Taking leave· ·Hear·: 1 Sh'mu'el Bet / 2 Samuel 22:1-51 1 B'rit Hadashah ·New Covenant·: John 21:1-25
