Jeremiah 47

The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza. 1

Thus saith the Lord; 1 Behold, waters rise up out of the north, 1 And shall be an overflowing flood, 1 And shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; 1 The city, and them that dwell therein: 1 Then the men shall cry, 1 And all the inhabitants of the land shall howl. 1

At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, 1 At the rushing of his chariots, 1 And at the rumbling of his wheels, 1 The fathers shall not look back to their children 1 For feebleness of hands; 1

Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, 1 And to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: 1 For the Lord will spoil the Philistines, 1 The remnant of the country of Caphtor. 1

Baldness is come upon Gaza; 1 Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: 1 How long wilt thou cut thyself? 1

O thou sword of the Lord, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? 1 Put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still. 1

How can it be quiet, seeing the Lord hath given it a charge 1 Against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it.
