Nahum · KJV Cambridge Paragraph

Nahum 3

Woe to the bloody city! 1 It is all full of lies and robbery; 1 The prey departeth not; 1

The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, 1 And of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots. 1

The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: 1 And there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; 1 And there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses: 1

Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, 1 The mistress of witchcrafts, 1 That selleth nations through her whoredoms, 1 And families through her witchcrafts. 1

Behold, I am against thee, saith the Lord of hosts; 1 And I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, 1 And I will shew the nations thy nakedness, 1 And the kingdoms thy shame. 1

And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, 1 And will set thee as a gazing-stock. 1

And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, 1 Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? 1 Whence shall I seek comforters for thee? 1

Art thou better than populous No, 1 That was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, 1 Whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was from the sea? 1

Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; 1 Put and Lubim were thy helpers. 1

Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: 1 Her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: 1 And they cast lots for her honourable men, 1 And all her great men were bound in chains. 1

Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, 1 Thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy. 1

All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: 1 If they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater. 1

Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: 1 The gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: 1 The fire shall devour thy bars. 1

Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: 1 Go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln. 1

There shall the fire devour thee; 1 The sword shall cut thee off, 1 It shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: 1 Make thyself many as the cankerworm, 1 Make thyself many as the locusts. 1

Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: 1 The cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away. 1

Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, 1 Which camp in the hedges in the cold day, 1 But when the sun ariseth they flee away, 1 And their place is not known where they are. 1

Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: 1 Thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them. 1

There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: 1 All that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: 1 For upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
