Habakkuk 1
1The burden which Chabakuk HaNavi did see. 1
2Until when, Hashem, must I cry for help, 1 and Thou wilt not hear? 1 Even cry out unto Thee: Chamas (violence!), 1 and Thou wilt not save? 1
3Why dost Thou show me iniquity, 1 and cause me to behold trouble? 1 For plundering and chamas are before me; 1 and there are those that raise up strife and contention. 1
4Therefore the torah is slacked, 1 and mishpat (judgment) doth never prevail; 1 for the rasha doth hem in the tzadik; 1 therefore mishpat (justice) proceedeth perverted. 1
5[ Hashem says]: Behold ye the Goyim, and regard, 1 and wonder marvelously; 1 for I will work a work in your yamim which, 1 though it be told you, of it ye will have no emunah (faith). 1
6For, hineni, I raise up the Kasdim (Chaldeans), 1 that Goy bitter and impetuous, 1 which shall march far and wide over the earth, 1 to confiscate the mishkanot (dwelling places) that are not their own. 1
7They are terrible and dreadful; 1 their mishpat and their dignity shall proceed from themselves. 1
8Their susim also are swifter than the leopards, 1 keener than the evening wolves; 1 and their parash (cavalry) shall charge ahead, 1 and their parash shall come from afar; 1 they shall fly as the nesher (eagle), swooping to devour. 1
9They shall come all for chamas; 1 the swarm of their faces is directed forward, 1 and they shall gather captives as the sand. 1
10And they shall scoff at the melachim, 1 and the roznim (dignitaries) shall be a scorn unto them; 1 they shall laugh at every stronghold; 1 for they shall heap dirt (earthen ramps), and take it. 1
11Then they sweep on like the ruach (wind), 1 guilty men whose g-d is his own koach. 1
12Art thou not mikedem (from everlasting), + 1:12 T.N. Also said of Moshiach, indicating Moshiachʼs coeternal divine nature: see Mic 5:1 [2]; see Dan 7:13-14; 3:12 1 Hashem Elohai (my G-d), Kedoshi (my Holy One)? 1 We shall not die. 1 Hashem, Thou hast appointed them for mishpat; 1 O Tzur, Thou hast ordained them for reproof. 1
13Thou art of eyes of tehor (pureness), not to behold rah, 1 and canst not look on wickedness; 1 why lookest Thou upon them that deal treacherously, 1 and holdest Thy tongue when the rasha devoureth the tzaddik, 1 the man that is more righteous than he? 1
14And makest adam as the dagim of the yam, 1 as the creeping things, that have no moshel over them? 1
15They take up all of them with a khakkah (hook), 1 they catch them in their net, 1 and gather them in their dragnet; 1 therefore they have simcha (joy) and are glad. 1
16Therefore they make zevakhim (sacrifices) unto their net, 1 and burn incense unto their dragnet; 1 because by them their portion is sumptuous, 1 and their food plenteous. 1
17Shall they therefore empty their net, 1 and without mercy continually slay the Goyim?
