Malachi 1

The burden of the Devar Hashem to Yisroel by Malachi. 1

I have loved you, saith Hashem. 1 Yet ye say: Wherein hast Thou loved us? 1 Was not Esav Ya'akovʼs brother? saith Hashem; 1 yet I loved Ya'akov, 1

But I hated Esav, 1 and his mountains and his nachalah I laid waste 1 into wasteland for the jackals of the midbar. 1

Whereas Edom saith: 1 We are dashed to pieces, 1 but we will return and rebuild the ruins; 1 thus saith Hashem Tzva'os: 1 They may build, but I will throw down; 1 and they shall call them, Gevul Rishah (territory of wickedness), 1 and the people against whom Hashem hath indignation ad olam (for ever). 1

And your eyes shall see, 1 and ye shall say: 1 Hashem is gadol (great) even beyond the Gevul Yisroel. 1

A ben honoreth his av, 1 and an eved his adon; 1 if then I be an Av, 1 where is Mine honor? 1 And if I be Adonim, 1 where is My reverence? 1 saith Hashem Tzva'os unto you, O kohanim, 1 that despise My Name. 1 But ye say: Wherein have we despised Thy name? 1

Ye offer lechem mego'al (defiled food) upon Mine mizbe'ach; 1 and ye say: Wherein have we defiled Thee? 1 In that ye say: The shulchan of Hashem is to be despised. 1

And when ye offer the blind animal for sacrifice, 1 is it not rah? 1 And when ye offer the lame and diseased, 1 is it not rah? 1 Offer it now unto thy governor; 1 will he be pleased with thee, 1 or receive thee? 1 saith Hashem Tzva'os. 1

And now, I pray you, beseech G-d 1 that He will be gracious unto us; 1 with such offerings from your hand, 1 will He receive you? 1 saith Hashem Tzva'os. 1

Who is there even among you that would shut the dlatayim of the Beis Hamikdash 1 so that eish would not be kindled on Mine mizbe'ach in vain? 1 There is no chefetz (pleasure) to Me with you, 1 saith Hashem Tzva'os, 1 neither will I accept a minchah at your hand. 1

For from the rising of the shemesh even unto the going down of the same 1 My name shall be gadol among the Goyim; 1 and in every place incense shall be offered unto My name, 1 and a minchah tehorah; 1 for My name shall be gadol among the Goyim, 1 saith Hashem Tzva'os. 1

But ye have committed chillul Hashem (desecration of the Name), in that ye say: 1 The shulchan Adonoi is mego'al (defiled); 1 and the fruit, even the food thereof, is contemptible. 1

Ye said also: Hinei, what a burden it is! 1 And ye have sniffed scornfully at it, 1 saith Hashem Tzva'os; 1 and ye brought that which was injured, 1 and the lame, and the diseased; 1 thus ye brought a minchah; 1 should I accept this of your hand? 1 saith Hashem. 1

But cursed be the nokhel (cheat, swindler, charlatan), 1 which hath in his flock a male, 1 and voweth, and sacrificeth unto Hashem the one being blemished; 1 for I am a Melech Gadol, 1 saith Hashem Tzva'os, 1 and My name is to be feared among the Goyim.
