Isaiah 40
“ Comfort
“ Speak 1
The 2 “ Prepare the way of Yahweh in the wilderness! 2 Make a level highway in the desert for our God. 1
Every 2 and every mountain and hill shall be made low. 2 The uneven shall be made level, 2 and the rough places a plain. 1
Yahweh 2 and all flesh shall see it together; 2 for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken it.” 1
The 2 One said, “ What shall I cry?” 1 “ All flesh is like grass, 2 and all its glory is like the flower of the field. 1
The 2 the flower fades, 2 because Yahweh’s breath blows on it. 2 Surely the people are like grass. 1
The 2 the flower fades; 2 but the word of our God stands forever.” 1
You 2 You who tell good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength! 2 Lift it up! Don’t be afraid! 2 Say to the cities of Judah, “ Behold, your God!” 1
Behold 2 and his arm will rule for him. 2 Behold, his reward is with him, 2 and his recompense before him. 1
He 2 He will gather the lambs in his arm, 2 and carry them in his bosom. 2 He will gently lead those who have their young. 1
Who 2 and marked off the sky with his span, 2 and calculated the dust of the earth in a measuring basket, 2 and weighed the mountains in scales, 2 and the hills in a balance? 1
Who 2 or has taught him as his counselor? 1
Who 2 and who instructed him, 2 and taught him in the path of justice, 2 and taught him knowledge, 2 and showed him the way of understanding? 1
Behold 2 and are regarded as a speck of dust on a balance. 2 Behold, he lifts up the islands like a very little thing. 1
Lebanon 2 nor its animals sufficient for a burnt offering. 1
All 2 They are regarded by him as less than nothing, and vanity. 1
To 2 Or what likeness will you compare to him? 1
A 2 and the goldsmith overlays it with gold, 2 and casts silver chains for it. 1
He 2 He seeks a skillful workman to set up a carved image for him that will not be moved. 1
Haven’t you 2 Haven’t you heard? 2 Haven’t you been told from the beginning? 2 Haven’t you understood from the foundations of the earth? 1
It 2 and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; 2 who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, 2 and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in, 2
who 2 who makes the judges of the earth meaningless. 1
They 2 They are sown scarcely. 2 Their stock has scarcely taken root in the ground. 2 He merely blows on them, and they wither, 2 and the whirlwind takes them away as stubble. 1
“ To 2 Who is my equal?” says the Holy One. 1
Lift 2 and see who has created these, 2 who brings out their army by number. 2 He calls them all by name. 2 By the greatness of his might, 2 and because he is strong in power, 2 not one is lacking. 1
Why 2 and speak, Israel, 2 “ My way is hidden from Yahweh, 2 and the justice due me is disregarded by my God”? 1
Haven’t you 2 Haven’t you heard? 2 The everlasting God, Yahweh, 2 the Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn’t faint. 2 He isn’t weary. 2 His understanding is unsearchable. 1
He 2 He increases the strength of him who has no might. 1
Even the 2 and the young men utterly fall; 2
but 2 They will mount up with wings like eagles. 2 They will run, and not be weary. 2 They will walk, and not faint.
