Jeremiah 51

The 1 “ Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, 2 and against those who dwell in Lebkamai, a destroying wind. 1

I 2 They will empty her land; 2 for in the day of trouble they will be against her all around. 1

Against 2 also against him who lifts himself up in his coat of mail. 1 Don’t spare her young men! 2 Utterly destroy all her army! 1

They 2 and thrust through in her streets. 1

For 2 by the LORD of Armies; 2 though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel. 1

“ Flee 2 Everyone save his own life! 1 Don’t be cut off in her iniquity, 2 for it is the time of the LORD’s vengeance. 2 He will give to her a recompense. 1

Babylon has 2 who made all the earth drunk. 1 The nations have drunk of her wine; 2 therefore the nations have gone mad. 1

Babylon has 2 Wail for her! 1 Take balm for her pain. 2 Perhaps she may be healed. 1

“ We 2 but she is not healed. 1 Forsake her, 2 and let’s each go into his own country; 1 for her judgment reaches to heaven, 2 and is lifted up even to the skies. 1

‘ The 2 Come, and let’s declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.’ 1

“ Make 2 Hold the shields firmly! 1 The LORD has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, 2 because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it; 1 for it is the vengeance of the LORD, 2 the vengeance of his temple. 1

Set 2 Make the watch strong! 1 Set the watchmen, 2 and prepare the ambushes; 1 for the LORD has both purposed and done 2 that which he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon. 1

You 2 your end has come, the measure of your covetousness. 1

The 2 ‘ Surely I will fill you with men, 2 as with locusts, 2 and they will lift up a shout against you.’ 1

“ He 2 He has established the world by his wisdom. 2 By his understanding he has stretched out the heavens. 1

When 2 there is a roar of waters in the heavens, 2 and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. 1 He makes lightning for the rain, 2 and brings the wind out of his treasuries. 1

“ Every 2 Every goldsmith is disappointed by his image, 1 for his molten images are falsehood, 2 and there is no breath in them. 1

They 2 a work of delusion. 2 In the time of their visitation, they will perish. 1

The 2 for he formed all things, 2 including the tribe of his inheritance. 2 The LORD of Armies is his name. 1

“ You 2 With you I will break the nations into pieces. 2 With you I will destroy kingdoms. 1

With 2 the horse and his rider. 1

With 2 the chariot and him who rides therein. 1 With you I will break in pieces 2 man and woman. 1 With you I will break in pieces 2 the old man and the youth. 1 With you I will break in pieces 2 the young man and the virgin. 1

With 2 the shepherd and his flock. 1 With you I will break in pieces 2 the farmer and his yoke. 1 With you I will break in pieces 2 governors and deputies.

“ I 1

“ Behold 2 “ which destroys all the earth. 1 I will stretch out my hand on you, 2 roll you down from the rocks, 2 and will make you a burned mountain. 1

They 2 nor a stone for foundations; 2 but you will be desolate forever,” says the LORD. 1

“ Set 2 Blow the trumpet among the nations! 1 Prepare the nations against her! 2 Call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz! 1 Appoint a marshal against her! 2 Cause the horses to come up as the swarming locusts! 1

Prepare 2 the kings of the Medes, its governors, and all its deputies, and all the land of their dominion! 1

The 2 for the purposes of the LORD against Babylon stand, 2 to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant. 1

The 2 they remain in their strongholds. 1 Their might has failed. 2 They have become as women. 1 Her dwelling places are set on fire. 2 Her bars are broken. 1

One 2 and one messenger to meet another, 2 to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter. 1

So the 2 They have burned the reeds with fire. 2 The men of war are frightened.”

For 1 “ The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time when it is trodden. 2 Yet a little while, and the time of harvest comes for her.” 1

“ Nebuchadnezzar 2 He has crushed me. 2 He has made me an empty vessel. 1 He has, like a monster, swallowed me up. 2 He has filled his mouth with my delicacies. 2 He has cast me out. 1

May the 2 the inhabitant of Zion will say; and, 1 “May my blood be on the inhabitants of Chaldea!” 2 will Jerusalem say.

Therefore 1 “ Behold, I will plead your cause, 2 and take vengeance for you. 1 I will dry up her sea, 2 and make her fountain dry. 1

Babylon will 2 a dwelling place for jackals, 2 an astonishment, and a hissing, 2 without inhabitant. 1

They 2 They will growl as lions’ cubs. 1

When 2 and I will make them drunk, 1 that they may rejoice, 2 and sleep a perpetual sleep, 2 and not wake up,” says the LORD. 1

“I will 2 like rams with male goats. 1

“How Sheshach 2 How the praise of the whole earth is seized! 2 How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations! 1

The 2 She is covered with the multitude of its waves. 1

Her 2 a dry land, and a desert, 2 a land in which no man dwells. 2 No son of man passes by it. 1

I 2 and I will bring out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up. 1 The nations will not flow any more to him. 2 Yes, the wall of Babylon will fall. 1

“ My 2 and each of you save yourselves from the LORD’s fierce anger. 1

Don’t let your 2 Don’t fear for the news that will be heard in the land. 1 For news will come one year, 2 and after that in another year news will come, 2 and violence in the land, 2 ruler against ruler. 1

Therefore 2 and her whole land will be confounded. 2 All her slain will fall in the middle of her. 1

Then 2 and all that is therein, 1 will sing for joy over Babylon; 2 for the destroyers will come to her from the north,” says the LORD. 1

“ As 2 so the slain of all the land will fall at Babylon. 1

You 2 Don’t stand still! 1 Remember the LORD from afar, 2 and let Jerusalem come into your mind.” 1

“ We 2 because we have heard reproach. 1 Confusion has covered our faces, 2 for strangers have come into the sanctuaries of the LORD’s house.” 1

“ Therefore 2 “ that I will execute judgment on her engraved images; 2 and through all her land the wounded will groan. 1

Though 2 and though she should fortify the height of her strength, 2 yet destroyers will come to her from me,” says the LORD. 1

“ The 2 and of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans! 1

For 2 and destroys out of her the great voice! 1 Their waves roar like many waters. 2 The noise of their voice is uttered. 1

For 2 even on Babylon. 1 Her mighty men are taken. 2 Their bows are broken in pieces, 1 for the LORD is a God of retribution. 2 He will surely repay. 1

I 2 her governors, her deputies, and her mighty men drunk. 1 They will sleep a perpetual sleep, 2 and not wake up,” 2 says the King, whose name is the LORD of Armies.

The 1 “ The wide walls of Babylon will be utterly overthrown. 2 Her high gates will be burned with fire. 1 The peoples will labor for vanity, 2 and the nations for the fire; 2 and they will be weary.”
