Song of Solomon 2

I am the rose of Sharon, 1 and the shoshan (lily) of the valleys. 1

As the shoshan (lily) among thorns, 1 so is my love among the banot. 1

As the tapuach (apple tree) among the trees of the wood, 1 so is dodi (my beloved) among the banim. 1 Betzilloh (in his shade, shadow) chimmadti (I desire ), + 2:3 See Song 5:16 1 and his p'ri (fruit) is sweet to my taste. 1

He brought me to the Bais HaYayin, 1 and his degel (standard, banner, flag) over me is ahavah. 1

Sustain me with cakes of raisins, 1 comfort me with apples: 1 ki cholat ahavah ani (for I am faint with ahavah, lovesick). 1

His left hand is under my rosh, 1 and his right hand doth embrace me. 1

I charge you, O ye banot Yerushalayim, 1 by the gazelles, and by the deer of the sadeh, 1 that ye arouse nor awake HaAhavah 1 till it pleases. + 2:7 i.e., until its own time — see 3:5; 8:4 1

Kol dodi (the voice of my beloved)! 1 Hinei, he cometh leaping upon the harim, 1 bounding over the hills. 1

Dodi (my beloved) is like a gazelle 1 or a young deer; 1 hinei, he standeth behind our Kotel (Wall); 1 he looketh forth at the chalonot (windows), 1 peering through the lattices. + 2:9 Rv 3:20 1

Dodi (my beloved) spoke, 1 and said unto me: 1 Rise up, my love, my fair one, 1 and come away. 1

For, hinei, the winter is past, 1 the geshem (rain) is over and gone; 1

The flowers appear on ha'aretz; 1 the time of zemer (song, singing of birds) has come; 1 and the voice of the turtledove is heard in Artzeinu (our Land); 1

The te'enah (fig tree) putteth forth her early figs, 1 and the vines with the tender grape give forth fragrance. 1 Arise, my love, my fair one, 1 and come away. 1

O my yonah (dove), that art in the clefts of the rock, 1 in the seter (secret place) of the cliff, 1 let me see thy countenance, 1 let me hear thy voice; 1 for sweet is thy voice, 1 and thy countenance is lovely. 1

Catch the shu'alim (foxes), 1 the shu'alim ketanim (little foxes), 1 that spoil the kramim (vines); 1 for krameinu (our [blooming] vines) have tender grapes. 1

Dodi (my beloved) is mine, 1 and I am his; 1 he feedeth among the lilies. 1

Until HaYom (the day) break, 1 and the shadows flee away, 1 turn, dodi (my beloved), 1 and be thou like a gazelle 1 or a young deer 1 upon the hills of Beter.
