Song of Solomon 7
1Return, return, O Shulamite; 1 return, return, that we may gaze upon thee. 1 What will ye see in the Shulamite? 1 As it were the mecholat Machanayim (dance of the Machanayim). + 7:1 See Gn 32:3 1
2How beautiful are thy feet in sandals, 1 O princeʼs daughter! 1 Thy graceful legs are like jewels, 1 ma'aseh yedei amon (the work of the hands of an artist). + 7:2 See Prov 8:30 1
3Thy navel is like a round goblet, 1 which wanteth not wine: 1 thy waist is like a mound of chittim (wheat) 1 encircled by shoshanim (lilies). 1
4Thy two breasts are like two fawns 1 that are twins of a gazelle. 1
5Thy tzavar (neck) is like a migdal of ivory; 1 thine eyes like the pools of Cheshbon, 1 by the sha'ar (gate) of Bat-Rabbim; 1 thy nose is like the migdal of the Levanon 1 which looketh toward Damascus. 1
6Thine head upon thee is like Carmel, 1 and the hair of thine head like royal tapestry; 1 Melech is held captive in its tresses. 1
7How fair and how pleasant art thou, 1 O Ahavah, for delights! 1
8This thy stature is like a tamar (palm tree), 1 and thy breasts eshkolot (clusters [of fruit]). 1
9I said: I will climb up to the tamar, 1 I will take hold of the branches thereof; 1 now also thy breasts shall be as eshkelot hagefen (clusters of the vine), 1 and the scent of thy breath like apples; 1
10And the roof of thy mouth like the best yayin of dodi (my beloved), 1 that goeth down sweetly, 1 causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak. 1
11I am my belovedʼs, 1 and to me goeth forth his teshukah (desire). 1
12Come, dodi (my beloved), 1 let us go forth into the sadeh; 1 let us lodge in the villages. 1
13Let us get up early to the kramim (vineyards); 1 let us see if the gefen budded, 1 whether the tender grape appears, 1 and the pomegranates bloom; 1 there will I give thee my love. 1
14The mandrakes send out their fragrance, 1 and at our doors are all manner of pleasant fruits, 1 chadashim (new ones) and yeshanim (old ones), 1 which I have stored up and kept for thee, O dodi (my beloved). + 7:14 T.N. Just as there are different classes of women in the harem — so there are different residences in the book of Esther, for the malkah, for the pilegesh and for the almah or betulah; cf Song 6:8 and Esther chp 2 .
