Isaiah 57
1The 2 and no one lays it to heart. 1 Merciful men are taken away, 2 and no one considers that the righteous is taken away from the evil. 1
2He 2 They rest in their beds, 2 each one who walks in his uprightness. 1
3“ But 2 you offspring of adulterers and prostitutes. 1
4Whom 2 Against whom do you make a wide mouth 2 and stick out your tongue? 1 Aren’t you children of disobedience 2 and offspring of falsehood, 1
5you 2 under every green tree; 1 who kill the children in the valleys, 2 under the clefts of the rocks? 1
6Among 2 They, they are your lot. 1 You have even poured a drink offering to them. 2 You have offered an offering. 2 Shall I be appeased for these things? 1
7On 2 You also went up there to offer sacrifice. 1
8You 2 for you have exposed yourself to someone besides me, 2 and have gone up. 1 You have enlarged your bed 2 and made a covenant for yourself with them. 2 You loved what you saw on their bed. 1
9You 2 increased your perfumes, 2 sent your ambassadors far off, 2 and degraded yourself even to Sheol. + 57:9 Sheol is the place of the dead. 1
10You 2 yet you didn’t say, ‘ It is in vain.’ 1 You found a reviving of your strength; 2 therefore you weren’t faint. 1
11“ Whom 2 so that you lie, 2 and have not remembered me, nor laid it to your heart? 1 Haven’t I held my peace for a long time, 2 and you don’t fear me? 1
12I 2 and as for your works, they will not benefit you. 1
13When 2 let those whom you have gathered deliver you, 1 but the wind will take them. 2 A breath will carry them all away, 1 but he who takes refuge in me will possess the land, 2 and will inherit my holy mountain.” 1
14He 2 Remove the stumbling-block out of the way of my people.” 1
15For 2 whose name is Holy, says: 1 “ I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, 2 to revive the spirit of the humble, 2 and to revive the heart of the contrite. 1
16For 2 for the spirit would faint before me, 2 and the souls whom I have made. 1
17I 2 I hid myself and was angry; 2 and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart. 1
18I 2 I will lead him also, 2 and restore comforts to him and to his mourners. 1
19I 2 Peace, peace, to him who is far off and to him who is near,” 2 says the LORD; “ and I will heal them.” 1
20But 2 for it can’t rest and its waters cast up mire and mud. 1
21“ There 2 “ for the wicked.”
