Jeremiah 49

Of 1 “ Has Israel no sons? 2 Has he no heir? 1 Why then does Malcam possess Gad, 2 and his people dwell in its cities? 1

Therefore 2 says the LORD, 1 “ that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, 2 and it will become a desolate heap, 2 and her daughters will be burned with fire; 1 then Israel will possess those who possessed him,” 2 says the LORD. 1

“ Wail 2 Cry, you daughters of Rabbah! 1 Clothe yourself in sackcloth. 2 Lament, and run back and forth among the fences; 1 for Malcam will go into captivity, 2 his priests and his princes together. 1

Why 2 your flowing valley, backsliding daughter? 1 You trusted in her treasures, 2 saying, ‘ Who will come to me?’ 1

Behold 2 says the Lord, GOD of Hosts, 1 “ from all who are around you. 2 All of you will be driven completely out, 2 and there will be no one to gather together the fugitives. 1

“ But 2 says the LORD.

Of 1 “ Is wisdom no more in Teman? 2 Has counsel perished from the prudent? 2 Has their wisdom vanished? 1

Flee 2 Dwell in the depths, inhabitants of Dedan; 2 for I will bring the calamity of Esau on him when I visit him. 1

If grape gatherers 2 would they not leave some gleaning grapes? 1 If thieves came by night, 2 wouldn’t they steal until they had enough? 1

But 2 I have uncovered his secret places, 2 and he will not be able to hide himself. 1 His offspring is destroyed, 2 with his brothers and his neighbors; 2 and he is no more. 1

Leave 2 I will preserve them alive. 2 Let your widows trust in me.”

For 1

I 2 and an ambassador is sent among the nations, 1 saying, “ Gather yourselves together! 2 Come against her! 2 Rise up to the battle!” 1

“ For 2 and despised among men. 1

As 2 the pride of your heart has deceived you, 1 O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, 2 who hold the height of the hill, 1 though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, 2 I will bring you down from there,” says the LORD. 1

“Edom will 2 Everyone who passes by it will be astonished, 2 and will hiss at all its plagues. 1

As 2 “ no man will dwell there, 2 neither will any son of man live therein. 1

“ Behold 2 for I will suddenly make them run away from it, 1 and whoever is chosen, 2 I will appoint him over it. 1 For who is like me? 2 Who will appoint me a time? 2 Who is the shepherd who will stand before me?” 1

Therefore 2 and his purposes that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: 1 Surely they will drag them away, 2 the little ones of the flock. 2 Surely he will make their habitation desolate over them. 1

The 2 there is a cry, the noise which is heard in the Sea of Suf. 1

Behold 2 and spread out his wings against Bozrah. 2 The heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day will be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

Of 1 “ Hamath and Arpad are confounded, 2 for they have heard evil news. 2 They have melted away. 1 There is sorrow on the sea. 2 It can’t be quiet. 1

Damascus 2 she turns herself to flee, 2 and trembling has seized her. 1 Anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, 2 as of a woman in travail. 1

How is 2 the city of my joy? 1

Therefore 2 and all the men of war will be brought to silence in that day,” 2 says the LORD of Hosts. 1

“I will 2 and it will devour the palaces of Ben Hadad.” 1

Of 1 “ Arise, go up to Kedar, 2 and destroy the children of the east. 1

They 2 they will carry away for themselves their curtains, 2 all their vessels, and their camels; 2 and they will cry to them, ‘ Terror on every side!’ 1

Flee 2 Wander far off! 1 Dwell in the depths, you inhabitants of Hazor,” says the LORD; 2 “ for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has taken counsel against you, 2 and has conceived a purpose against you. 1

Arise 2 that dwells without care,” says the LORD; 2 “ that has neither gates nor bars, 2 that dwells alone. 1

Their 2 and the multitude of their livestock a plunder. 1 I will scatter to all winds those who have the corners of their beards cut off; 2 and I will bring their calamity from every side of them,” 2 says the LORD. 1

Hazor 2 a desolation forever. 1 No man will dwell there, 2 neither will any son of man live therein.”

I 2 and will scatter them toward all those winds. 2 There will be no nation where the outcasts of Elam will not come. 1

I 2 and before those who seek their life. 1 I will bring evil on them, even my fierce anger,’ says the LORD; 2 ‘ and I will send the sword after them, 2 until I have consumed them. 1

I 2 and will destroy from there king and princes,’ says the LORD. 1

‘ But 2 that I will reverse the captivity of Elam,’ says the LORD.”
