Jeremiah 9

1Oh 2 and my eyes a spring of tears, 1 that I might weep day and night 2 for the slain of the daughter of my people! 1

2Oh that 2 a lodging place of wayfaring men, 1 that I might leave my people 2 and go from them! 1 For they are all adulterers, 2 an assembly of treacherous men. 1

3“ They 2 as their bow, for falsehood. 1 They have grown strong in the land, 2 but not for truth; 1 for they proceed from evil to evil, 2 and they don’t know me,” says the LORD. 1

4“Everyone beware of 2 and don’t trust in any brother; 1 for every brother will utterly supplant, 2 and every neighbor will go around like a slanderer. 1

5Friends 2 and will not speak the truth. 1 They have taught their tongue to speak lies. 2 They weary themselves committing iniquity. 1

6Your 2 Through deceit, they refuse to know me,” says the LORD.

7Therefore the 1 “Behold, I will melt them and test them; 2 for how should I deal with the daughter of my people? 1

8Their 2 It speaks deceit. 1 One speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, 2 but in his heart, he waits to ambush him. 1

9Shouldn’t I 2 “Shouldn’t my soul be avenged on a nation such as this? 1

10I 2 and lament for the pastures of the wilderness, 1 because they are burned up, so that no one passes through; 2 Men can’t hear the voice of the livestock. 1 Both the birds of the sky and the animals have fled. 2 They are gone. 1

11“ I 2 a dwelling place of jackals. 1 I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, 2 without inhabitant.”

17The 1 “ Consider, and call for the mourning women, that they may come. 2 Send for the skillful women, that they may come. 1

18Let 2 and take up a wailing for us, 1 that our eyes may run down with tears 2 and our eyelids gush out with waters. 1

19For 2 ‘ How we are ruined! 1 We are greatly confounded 2 because we have forsaken the land, 2 because they have cast down our dwellings.’” 1

20Yet 2 Let your ear receive the word of his mouth. 1 Teach your daughters wailing. 2 Everyone teach her neighbor a lamentation. 1

21For 2 It has entered into our palaces 1 to cut off the children from outside, 2 and the young men from the streets.

22Speak, “ The 1 “‘ The dead bodies of men will fall as dung on the open field, 2 and as the handful after the harvester. 2 No one will gather them.’”

23The 1 “Don’t let the wise man glory in his wisdom. 2 Don’t let the mighty man glory in his might. 2 Don’t let the rich man glory in his riches. 1

24But 2 that he has understanding, and knows me, 1 that I am the LORD who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness on the earth, 2 for I delight in these things,” says the LORD.

26Egypt, Judah, Edom, the children of Ammon, Moab, and all who have the corners of their hair cut off, who dwell in the wilderness, for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.”
