Isaiah 42
1“ Behold 2 my chosen, in whom my soul delights: 2 I have put my Spirit on him. 2 He will bring justice to the nations. 1
2He 2 nor raise his voice, 2 nor cause it to be heard in the street. 1
3He 2 He won’t quench a dimly burning wick. 2 He will faithfully bring justice. 1
4He 2 until he has set justice on the earth, 2 and the islands wait for his law.” 1
5God 2 he who created the heavens and stretched them out, 2 he who spread out the earth and that which comes out of it, 2 he who gives breath to its people and spirit to those who walk in it, says: 1
6“ I 2 I will hold your hand. 2 I will keep you, 2 and make you a covenant for the people, 2 as a light for the nations, 2
7to 2 to bring the prisoners out of the dungeon, 2 and those who sit in darkness out of the prison. 1
8“ I 2 That is my name. 2 I will not give my glory to another, 2 nor my praise to engraved images. 1
9Behold 2 and I declare new things. 2 I tell you about them before they come up.” 1
10Sing 2 and his praise from the end of the earth, 2 you who go down to the sea, 2 and all that is therein, 2 the islands and their inhabitants. 1
11Let the 2 with the villages that Kedar inhabits. 2 Let the inhabitants of Sela sing. 2 Let them shout from the top of the mountains! 1
12Let 2 and declare his praise in the islands. 1
13The 2 He will stir up zeal like a man of war. 2 He will raise a war cry. 2 Yes, he will shout aloud. 2 He will triumph over his enemies. 1
14“I have 2 I have been quiet and restrained myself. 2 Now I will cry out like a travailing woman. I will both gasp and pant. 1
15I 2 and dry up all their herbs. 2 I will make the rivers islands, 2 and will dry up the pools. 1
16I 2 I will lead them in paths that they don’t know. 2 I will make darkness light before them, 2 and crooked places straight. 2 I will do these things, 2 and I will not forsake them. 1
17“Those who trust in 2 who tell molten images, 2 ‘You are our gods,’ 2 will be turned back. 2 They will be utterly disappointed. 1
18“ Hear 2 and look, you blind, 2 that you may see. 1
19Who 2 Or who is as deaf as my messenger whom I send? 1 Who is as blind as he who is at peace, 2 and as blind as the LORD’s servant? 1
20You 2 His ears are open, but he doesn’t listen. 1
21It 2 and make it honourable. 1
22But 2 All of them are snared in holes, 2 and they are hidden in prisons. 1 They have become captives, and no one delivers, 2 and a plunder, and no one says, ‘ Restore them!’ 1
23Who 2 Who will listen and hear for the time to come? 1
24Who 2 and Israel to the robbers? 2 Didn’t the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? 2 For they would not walk in his ways, 2 and they disobeyed his law. 1
25Therefore 2 and the strength of battle. 1 It set him on fire all around, but he didn’t know. 2 It burnt him, but he didn’t take it to heart.”
