Isaiah 51
1“ Listen 2 you who seek the LORD. 1 Look to the rock you were cut from, 2 and to the quarry you were dug from. 1
2Look 2 and to Sarah who bore you; 1 for when he was but one I called him, 2 I blessed him, 2 and made him many. 1
3For 2 He has comforted all her waste places, 2 and has made her wilderness like Eden, 2 and her desert like the garden of the LORD. 1 Joy and gladness will be found in them, 2 thanksgiving, and the voice of melody. 1
4“ Listen 2 and hear me, my nation, 1 for a law will go out from me, 2 and I will establish my justice for a light to the peoples. 1
5My 2 My salvation has gone out, 2 and my arms will judge the peoples. 1 The islands will wait for me, 2 and they will trust my arm. 1
6Lift 2 and look at the earth beneath; 1 for the heavens will vanish away like smoke, 2 and the earth will wear out like a garment. 1 Its inhabitants will die in the same way, 2 but my salvation will be forever, 2 and my righteousness will not be abolished. 1
7“ Listen 2 the people in whose heart is my law. 1 Don’t fear the reproach of men, 2 and don’t be dismayed at their insults. 1
8For 2 and the worm will eat them like wool; 1 but my righteousness will be forever, 2 and my salvation to all generations.” 1
9Awake 2 Awake, as in the days of old, 2 the generations of ancient times. 1 Isn’t it you who cut Rahab in pieces, 2 who pierced the monster? 1
10Isn’t it 2 the waters of the great deep; 2 who made the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over? 1
11Those 2 and come with singing to Zion. 2 Everlasting joy shall be on their heads. 1 They will obtain gladness and joy. 2 Sorrow and sighing shall flee away. 1
12“ I 2 Who are you, that you are afraid of man who shall die, 2 and of the son of man who will be made as grass? 1
13Have 2 who stretched out the heavens, 2 and laid the foundations of the earth? 1 Do you live in fear continually all day because of the fury of the oppressor, 2 when he prepares to destroy? 2 Where is the fury of the oppressor? 1
14The 2 He will not die and go down into the pit. 2 His bread won’t fail. 1
15For 2 so that its waves roar. 2 the LORD of Hosts is his name. 1
16I 2 and have covered you in the shadow of my hand, 1 that I may plant the heavens, 2 and lay the foundations of the earth, 2 and tell Zion, ‘ You are my people.’” 1
17Awake 2 Stand up, Jerusalem, 2 you who have drunk from the LORD’s hand the cup of his wrath. 1 You have drunken the bowl of the cup of staggering, 2 and drained it. 1
18There 2 and there is no one who takes her by the hand amongst all the sons whom she has brought up. 1
19These 2 who will grieve with you?— 1 desolation and destruction, 2 and famine and the sword. 2 How can I comfort you? 1
20Your 2 They lie at the head of all the streets, 2 like an antelope in a net. 1 They are full of the LORD’s wrath, 2 the rebuke of your God. 1
21Therefore 2 and drunken, but not with wine: 1
22Your 2 your God who pleads the cause of his people, says, 1 “ Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of staggering, 2 even the bowl of the cup of my wrath. 2 You will not drink it any more. 1
23I 2 who have said to your soul, ‘ Bow down, that we may walk over you;’ 2 and you have laid your back as the ground, 2 like a street to those who walk over.”
