Hosea 10
Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: 1 According to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; 1 According to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images. 1
Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: 1 He shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images. 1
For now they shall say, We have no king, 1 Because we feared not the Lord; 1 What then should a king do to us? 1
They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: 1 Thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field. 1
The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven: 1 For the people thereof shall mourn over it, 1 And the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, 1 For the glory thereof, because it is departed from it. 1
It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: 1 Ephraim shall receive shame, 1 And Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel. 1
As for Samaria, her king is cut off 1 As the foam upon the water. 1
The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: 1 The thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; 1 And they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; 1 And to the hills, Fall on us. 1
O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: 1 The battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them. 1
It is in my desire that I should chastise them; 1 And the people shall be gathered against them, 1 When they shall bind themselves in their two furrows. 1
And Ephraim is as a heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; 1 But I passed over upon her fair neck: 1 I will make Ephraim to ride; 1 Judah shall plow, 1 And Jacob shall break his clods. 1
Sow to yourselves in righteousness, 1 Reap in mercy; 1 Break up your fallow ground: 1 For it is time to seek the Lord, 1 Till he come and rain righteousness upon you. 1
Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; 1 Ye have eaten the fruit of lies: 1 Because thou didst trust in thy way, 1 In the multitude of thy mighty men. 1
Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, 1 And all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, 1 As Shalman spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of battle: 1 The mother was dashed in pieces upon her children. 1
So shall Beth-el do unto you because of your great wickedness; 1 In a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.
