Amos 3

Hear this word that Hashem hath spoken against you, O Bnei Yisroel, against the kol hamishpochoh which I brought up from Eretz Mitzrayim, saying: 1

You only have I known of all the mishpechot ha'adamah: 1 therefore I will punish you for kol avonotechem. 1

Can shnayim walk together, 1 except they be agreed? 1

Will an aryeh roar in the thicket, 1 when he hath no prey? 1 Will a lion roar from his den, 1 if he has taken nothing? 1

Can a bird fall in a pach ha'aretz (trap on the ground), 1 when his snare is not set? 1 Can a pach spring up from ha'aretz 1 without making a capture? 1

Shall a shofar be blown in the city, 1 and the people not be afraid? 1 Shall there be disaster in a city, 1 and Hashem hath not caused it? 1

Surely Adonoi Hashem will do nothing, 1 but He revealeth His sod (secret) 1 unto His avadim hanevi'im. 1

The aryeh hath roared, 1 who will not fear? 1 Adonoi Hashem hath spoken, 1 who can but prophesy? 1

Publish in the fortresses at Ashdod, 1 and in the fortresses in Eretz Mitzrayim, 1 and say: Assemble yourselves upon harei Shomron, 1 and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, 1 and the oppression in the midst thereof. 1

For they have no da'as to do right, saith Hashem, 1 who store up chamas and shod in their fortresses. 1

Therefore thus saith Adonoi Hashem: 1 An adversary shall surround the land; 1 and he shall bring down thy strongholds from thee, 1 and thy fortresses shall be plundered.

Thus saith Hashem: As the ro'eh taketh out of the mouth of the aryeh two legs, or a piece of an ozen; so shall the Bnei Yisroel be saved that dwell in Shomron — with the corner of a mittah (bed), and the edge of a couch. 1

Hear ye, and testify against Bais Ya'akov, 1 saith Adonoi Hashem, Elohei HaTzva'os, 1

On the Yom that I visit her 1 to punish the peysha'im of Yisroel, 1 I will also visit to punish the mizbechot of Beit-El; 1 and the horns of the mizbe'ach shall be cut off, 1 and fall to ha'aretz. 1

And I will strike the bais hachoref with the bais hakayitz; 1 and the batim (houses) of ivory shall perish, 1 and the batim rabbim (great houses) shall have an end, 1 saith Hashem.
