Micah 1

The Devar Hashem that came to Michah HaMorashti in the yamim of Yotam, Achaz, and Yechizkiyah, melachim of Yehudah, which he saw concerning Shomron and Yerushalayim: 1

Hear, all ye peoples; 1 hearken, O Eretz (earth), and all that is therein; 1 and let Adonoi Hashem be witness against you, 1 Adonoi from His Heikhal Kodesh. 1

For, hinei, Hashem cometh forth out of His dwelling place, 1 and will come down, and tread upon the high places of ha'aretz. 1

And the mountains shall melt under Him, 1 and the valleys shall be split apart, 1 like wax before the eish, 1 and like mayim that are poured down a steep place. 1

Because of the peysha (transgression) of Ya'akov is all this, 1 and because of the chattot Bais Yisroel. 1 What is the peysha of Ya'akov? 1 Is it not Shomron? 1 And what are the high places of Yehudah? 1 Are they not Yerushalayim? 1

Therefore I will make Shomron like a rubble heap of the sadeh, 1 and like a place for planting a kerem (vineyard); 1 and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, 1 and I will lay bare her foundations. 1

And all the pesilim thereof shall be beaten to pieces, 1 and all the etnan (temple proceeds of cult prostitution) shall be burned with the eish, 1 and all the idols thereof will I lay desolate; 1 for she + 1:7 i.e., Shomron gathered of the etnan (wage) of a zonah, 1 and they shall revert to the etnan (wage) of a zonah. 1

Therefore I will weep and wail, 1 I will go barefoot and arom (half-naked); 1 I will wail like the jackals, 1 and mourn like the ostriches. 1

For her wound is incurable; 1 for it is come unto Yehudah; 1 it is come unto the sha'ar ami (gate of my people) 1 even to Yerushalayim. 1

Declare ye it not at Gat, 1 weep ye not at all; 1 at Beit L'aphrah (House of Dust) roll thyself in the aphar (dust). 1

Pass ye on your way, thou inhabitant of Shaphir, 1 in nakedness and shame; 1 the inhabitants of Tza'anan dare not come out. 1 Beit-Ha'etzel is in mourning; 1 it withdraws from you its support. 1

For the inhabitant of Marot waited anxiously for relief; 1 but rah (evil) came down from Hashem unto the sha'ar Yerushalayim. 1

O thou inhabitant of Lakhish, 1 harness the merkavah to the swift horses; 1 it was the reshit chattat (beginning of sin) to Bat Tziyon; 1 for the transgressions of Yisroel 1 were found in thee. 1

Therefore shalt thou give shilluchim (parting gifts) to Moreshet-Gat; 1 the batim (houses) of Achziv shall be a deception 1 to the melachim of Yisroel. 1

Yet will I bring HaYoresh (The Heir, the one who takes possession) unto thee, 1 O inhabitant of Mareshah; 1 the kavod Yisroel shall come unto Adullam. 1

Shave your head in mourning 1 for the children who were your delight; 1 make yourselves as bald as the nesher (vulture); 1 for they are gone into the golus from thee.
