Hosea 10

Yisroel is a running gefen, 1 he bringeth forth p'ri unto himself; 1 according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the mizbechot; 1 according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly matzevot (stone pillars, monuments). 1

Their lev is deceitful; 1 now shall they bear guilt; 1 He shall break down their mizbechot, 1 He shall destroy their matzevot. 1

For now they shall say: 1 We have no Melech, 1 because we feared not Hashem; 1 but if we did have a Melech, what could he do for us? 1

They have spoken words, 1 swearing falsely in cutting brit (covenant); 1 thus mishpat springeth up as poisonous herb 1 in the furrows of the sadeh. 1

The inhabitants of Shomron tremble 1 because of the eglot (calf-idols) of Beit-Aven; 1 for the people thereof shall mourn over it, 1 likewise the komer (idolatrous priests), 1 who shout for joy over it, 1 for its kavod from it has departed. 1

It shall be also carried unto Assyria 1 for a minchah (present) to the great king; 1 Ephrayim shall receive disgrace, 1 and Yisroel shall be ashamed of his own counsel. 1

As for Shomron, 1 her melech will float off like a twig upon the surface of the mayim. 1

The high places also of Aven, the chattat Yisroel, 1 shall be made shmad; 1 the kotz (thorn) and the dardar (thistle) shall come up on their mizbechot; 1 and they shall say to the mountains: Cover us; 1 and to the hills: Fall on us. 1

O Yisroel, thou hast sinned 1 from the yamei Giv'ah; 1 there they have continued. 1 Did not milchamah (war) overtake 1 the bnei alvah (children of unruliness) in Giv'ah? 1

When I please, I will chastise them; 1 amim shall be gathered against them, 1 when they are punished for their shtei avon (double iniquity). 1

And Ephrayim is an eglah melummadah (a trained heifer), 1 and loveth to tread out the grain; 1 but I will put a yoke on her fair neck; 1 I will drive Ephrayim; 1 Yehudah shall plow, 1 and Ya'akov shall break his clods. 1

Sow to yourselves in tzedakah, 1 reap in chesed; 1 break up your fallow ground; 1 for it is time to seek Hashem, 1 till He come and rain tzedek upon you. 1

Ye have plowed resha, 1 ye have reaped avlah; 1 ye have eaten the pri kachash (fruit of lies); 1 because thou didst trust in thy way, 1 in the multitude of thy gibborim (mighty men). 1

Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, 1 and all thy fortresses shall be devastated, 1 as Shalman devastated Beit-Arbel on the yom milchamah; 1 the em were dashed in pieces with their banim. 1

So, O Beit-El, shall it be done unto you 1 because of your great wickedness; 1 in the shachar (dawn) shall the Melech Yisroel 1 utterly be cut off. + 10:15 Isa 53:8
