Hosea 12
1Ephrayim compasseth Me about with kachash (lies), 1 and Bais Yisroel with mirmar (deceit); + 12:1 See Isa 53:9 which says Moshiach will have no mirmar 1 but Yehudah still is unruly against El, 1 and against Kadoshim (Holy One); + 12:1 See Prov 9:10 Who is ne'eman. 1
2Ephrayim feedeth on wind, and chasing after the east wind; 1 he daily increaseth kazav (lies) and sod (desolation); 1 and cuts brit with the Assyrians, 1 and shemen is sent to Mitzrayim. 1
3Hashem hath also a charge against Yehudah, 1 and will visit punishment on Ya'akov according to his ways; 1 according to his doings will He repay him. 1
4In the beten (womb) he (Ya'akov) akav (took at the heel) [of] his brother 1 and by his strength he sarah (struggled with, persevered) with Elohim; 1
5Yea, he (Yisroel) sarah (had power over) the malach, and prevailed; 1 he wept, and made techinnah unto Him; 1 He found him at Beit-El, 1 and there He spoke with us; 1
6Even Hashem Elohei Tzva'os; 1 Hashem is His [memorial] Name! 1
7Therefore turn thou to Eloheicha; 1 be shomer over chesed and mishpat 1 and wait on Eloheicha tamid (continually). 1
8A kena'an (merchant), in whose hand are the scales of mirmar (deceit) 1 He loveth to oppress. 1
9And Ephrayim boasts: Yet I am become an oisher, 1 I have found me out wealth; 1 in all my gain they shall find none avon (iniquity, offense) 1 in me that would be chet (sin). 1
10And I that am Hashem Eloheicha from Eretz Mitzrayim 1 will yet make thee to dwell in oholim, 1 as in the yamei mo'ed. + 12:10 i.e. Sukkot 1
11I have also spoken to the nevi'im, 1 and I have multiplied chazon (vision, revelation, prophecy), 1 and spoken parables by the nevi'im. 1
12Is there aven (iniquity) in Gil'ad? 1 Surely they are vanity; 1 they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; 1 yea, their mizbechot are as piles of stones 1 in the furrows of the fields. 1
13And Ya'akov fled into the country of Aram, 1 and Yisroel served for an isha, 1 and for an isha he was shomer [over sheep]. 1
14And by a navi Hashem brought Yisroel out of Mitzrayim, 1 and shomer + 12:14 Yisroel a navi was. 1
15Ephrayim has provoked bitter anger; 1 therefore shall He leave his blood-guiltiness upon him, 1 and his scorn shall Adonoi of him return and repay unto him.
