Hosea 8
Set the shofar to thy lips. 1 He + 8:1 the Assyrian enemy shall come as a nesher against the Bais Hashem, 1 because they have transgressed My brit (covenant), 1 and committed pesha against My torah. 1
Yisroel shall cry unto Me: 1 Elohai, we know Thee. We, Yisroel! 1
Yisroel hath cast off the thing that is tov; 1 the oyev (enemy) shall pursue him. 1
They have set up melachim, but not from Me; 1 they have made sarim (princes), and I knew it not; 1 of their kesef and their zahav 1 have they made them atzabim (idols), 1 that they may be cut off. 1
Thy egel (calf-idol), O Shomron, I am casting off; 1 Mine anger is kindled against them; 1 how long will they be incapable of nikkayon (innocency, freedom from punishment)? 1
They are from Yisroel! 1 The craftsman made it; 1 therefore it is not Elohim; 1 but the egel of Shomron shall be broken in pieces. 1
For they have sown the wind, 1 and they shall reap the whirlwind; 1 the stalk [of standing grain] hath no tzemach (shoot); 1 it shall yield no kemach (flour); 1 and even if it yielded it, zarim would devour it. 1
Yisroel is swallowed up; 1 now shall they be among the Goyim 1 like a worthless keli (vessel). 1
For they are gone up to Assyria, 1 a pere (wild donkey) off by itself alone; 1 Ephrayim hath sold herself to ahavim (lovers). 1
Yea, though they have bargained among the Goyim, 1 now will I gather them, 1 and they shall begin to diminish 1 on account of the massa (burden) of Melech Sarim. 1
Because Ephrayim hath built many mizbechot for sin, 1 mizbechot shall be unto him to sin. 1
I have written to him the many things of My torah, 1 but they were regarded as a zar (strange thing). 1
They sacrifice basar for the sacrifices of Mine offerings, and eat it; 1 but Hashem accepteth them not; 1 now will He remember their avon (iniquity), and visit punishment on their sins; 1 they shall return to Mitzrayim. 1
For Yisroel hath forgotten his Maker, 1 and buildeth heikhalot; 1 and Yehudah hath multiplied fortified towns; 1 but I will send eish upon his towns, 1 and it shall devour the citadels thereof.
