Hosea 13
When Ephrayim spoke there was trembling; 1 he was exalted in Yisroel; 1 but when he became guilty in Ba'al, he died. 1
And now they sin more and more, 1 and have made for themselves massekhah (idol) of their kesef, 1 and atzabim according to their faculty of binah (understanding), 1 all of it the work of the craftsmen; 1 they say of them: 1 Let adam that sacrifice kiss calf-idols. 1
Therefore they shall be like the anan boker (morning cloud) 1 and as the early dew that disappears, 1 like the motz (chaff) that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing floor, 1 and as the smoke out of the window. 1
Yet I am Hashem Eloheicha from Eretz Mitzrayim, 1 and thou shalt know no Elohim but Me; 1 for there is no Moshia besides Me. 1
I did know thee in the midbar, 1 in the eretz taluvot (land of burning heat). 1
According to their pasture, + 13:6 i.e., as I fed them so were they filled; 1 they were filled, and their lev became proud; 1 therefore have they forgotten Me. 1
Therefore I will be unto them as a lion; 1 as a leopard by the derech will I lie in wait; 1
I will meet them as a dov (bear) that is bereaved of her cubs, 1 and will rip open the covering of their lev, 1 and there will I devour them like a lion; 1 as the wild beast of the sadeh would tear them. 1
O Yisroel, thou art destroyed; 1 because thou art against Me, thine Ezer (Help). 1
Where now is thy melech 1 that he may save thee? 1 Where in all thy cities are thy shofetim of whom thou saidst: 1 Give me a melech and sarim? 1
I gave thee a melech in Mine anger, 1 and took him away in My wrath. + 13:11 Isa 53:10 1
The avon (iniquity) of Ephrayim is bound up; 1 his chattat is lurking. 1
The chevlei yoledah (birth pangs of a woman in childbirth) shall come upon him; 1 he is a ben lo chacham; 1 for when it is time he does not come 1 to the opening of the womb. 1
Should I ransom them from the power of Sheol? 1 Should I redeem them from mavet? 1 O Mavet, where are the dever (pestilence, plague) of thee? 1 O Sheol, where is thy destruction? 1 Nocham (sorrow, compassion, pity) shall be hidden from Mine eyes. 1
Even though he thrives among his achim, 1 an east wind shall come, 1 the Ruach Hashem shall come up from the midbar (desert), 1 and his makor (spring, fountain) shall become dry, 1 and his well shall be dried up; 1 it shall plunder the otzar of every keli chemdah (precious vessel).
