Proverbs 29
1He, that being often reproved, stiffeneth his neck, 1 shall suddenly be destroyed, 1 and that without marpeh (remedy). 1
2When the tzaddikim are increased, the people rejoice, 1 but when the rasha beareth rule, the people groan. 1
3He who loveth chochmah rejoiceth aviv, 1 but he that keepeth company with zonot squanders his hon (substance, wealth). 1
4Melech by mishpat establisheth eretz, 1 but an ish terumot (a man of bribes) bringeth it down. 1
5A gever that flattereth his neighbor 1 spreadeth a reshet (net) for his feet. 1
6By peysha (transgression) an ish rah is snared, 1 but the tzaddik doth sing and have simchah. 1
7The tzaddik considereth the cause of the dalim, 1 but the rasha (wicked) doeth not understand such da'as (knowledge). 1
8Scornful men enflame a city, 1 but chachamim turn away af (wrath). 1
9If an ish chacham has to contend with a fool, 1 he + 29:9 the fool rageth or laugheth, and hath no rest. 1
10The anshei damim hate the blameless, 1 but the yesharim seek his nefesh (soul, i.e., well-being). + 29:10 i.e., his soulʼs well-being 1
11A kesil (fool) uttereth all his wrath, 1 but a chacham keepeth it back quietly. 1
12If a moshel pays heed to davar sheker, 1 all his mesharetim (officials, ministers) are resha'im. 1
13The rahsh (pauper) and the oppressor have this in common: 1 Hashem enlighteneth both their eynayim. 1
14If Melech shofet be'emes (judges in truth) the dalim, 1 his kisse shall be established forever. 1
15The shevet (rod) and tokhakhat (reproof) give chochmah, 1 but a na'ar (child) left to himself bringeth immo to shame. 1
16When the resha'im are multiplied, peysha (transgression) increaseth, 1 but the tzaddikim shall see their downfall. 1
17Correct binecha, and he shall give thee rest; 1 indeed, he shall give delight unto thy nefesh. 1
18Where there is no chazon (prophetic vision), the people cast off restaint, + 29:18 i.e., perish ungovernable 1 but he that is shomer over the torah, happy is he. 1
19An eved will not be corrected by devarim, 1 for though he understand he will not answer. 1
20Seest thou an ish that is hasty in his devarim? 1 There is more tikvah for a kesil (fool) than for him. 1
21He that pampers his eved from youth up 1 shall have him as his ben at the acharit (end). 1
22An ish af (angry man) stirreth up strife, 1 and a ba'al chemah (ill-tempered man) aboundeth in peysha (transgression). 1
23Ga'avat adam (pride of man) shall bring him low, 1 but the humble in ruach shall attain kavod. 1
24He who is partner with a ganav hateth his own nefesh; 1 he heareth the curse of the victim but discloses nothing. 1
25The fear of adam bringeth a mokesh (snare), 1 but he who putteth his trust in Hashem shall be secure. 1
26Many seek the moshelʼs favor, 1 but mishpat ish cometh from Hashem. 1
27An unjust man is a to'evah to the tzaddikim, 1 and he that is yeshar derech (upright in the way) is to'evah to the rasha.
