Psalms 78

Give 1 Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. 1

I 1 I will utter dark sayings of old, 1

Which 1 And our fathers have told us. 1

We 1 Telling to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah, 1 And his strength, and his wondrous works that he hath done. 1

For 1 And appointed a law in Israel, 1 Which he commanded our fathers, 1 That they should make them known to their children; 1

That 1 Who should arise and tell them to their children, 1

That 1 And not forget the works of God, 1 But keep his commandments, 1

And 1 A stubborn and rebellious generation, 1 A generation that set not their heart aright, 1 And whose spirit was not steadfast with God. 1

The 1 Turned back in the day of battle. 1

They 1 And refused to walk in his law; 1

And 1 And his wondrous works that he had shown them. 1

Marvelous things 1 In the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. 1

He 1 And he made the waters to stand as a heap. 1

In 1 And all the night with a light of fire. 1

He 1 And gave them drink abundantly as out of the depths. 1

He 1 And caused waters to run down like rivers. 1

Yet 1 To rebel against the Most High in the desert. 1

And 1 By asking food according to their desire. 1

Yea, they 1 They said, Can God prepare a table in the wilderness? 1

Behold 1 And streams overflowed; 1 Can he give bread also? 1 Will he provide flesh for his people? 1

Therefore 1 And a fire was kindled against Jacob, 1 And anger also went up against Israel; 1

Because 1 And trusted not in his salvation. 1

Yet he 1 And opened the doors of heaven; 1

And 1 And gave them food from heaven. 1

Man did eat 1 He sent them food to the full. 1

He 1 And by his power he guided the south wind. 1

He 1 And winged birds as the sand of the seas: 1

And 1 Round about their habitations. 1

So 1 And he gave them their own desire. 1

They 1 Their food was yet in their mouths, 1

When 1 And slew of the fattest of them, 1 And smote down the young men of Israel. 1

For 1 And believed not in his wondrous works. 1

Therefore their 1 And their years in terror. 1

When 1 And they returned and sought God earnestly. 1

And 1 And the Most High God their redeemer. 1

But they 1 And lied unto him with their tongue. 1

For 1 Neither were they faithful in his covenant. 1

But 1 Yea, many a time turned he his anger away, 1 And did not stir up all his wrath. 1

And 1 A wind that passeth away, and cometh not again. 1

How 1 And grieve him in the desert! 1

And 1 And provoked the Holy One of Israel. 1

They 1 Nor the day when he redeemed them from the adversary; 1

How he 1 And his wonders in the field of Zoan, 1

And 1 And their streams, so that they could not drink. 1

He 1 And frogs, which destroyed them. 1

He 1 And their labor unto the locust. 1

He destroyed 1 And their sycamore trees with frost. 1

He gave 1 And their flocks to hot thunderbolts. 1

He 1 Wrath, and indignation, and trouble, 1 A band of angels of evil. 1

He 1 He spared not their soul from death, 1 But gave their life over to the pestilence, 1

And 1 The chief of their strength in the tents of Ham. 1

But 1 And guided them in the wilderness like a flock. 1

And 1 But the sea overwhelmed their enemies. 1

And 1 To this mountain, which his right hand had gotten. 1

He 1 And allotted them for an inheritance by line, 1 And made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents. 1

Yet 1 And kept not his testimonies; 1

But turned 1 They were turned aside like a deceitful bow. 1

For 1 And moved him to jealousy with their graven images. 1

When 1 And greatly abhorred Israel; 1

So that 1 The tent which he placed among men; 1

And 1 And his glory into the adversary’s hand. 1

He 1 And was wroth with his inheritance. 1

Fire devoured their 1 And their virgins had no marriage song. 1

Their 1 And their widows made no lamentation. 1

Then the Lord awoke 1 Like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine. 1

And 1 He put them to a perpetual reproach. 1

Moreover he 1 And chose not the tribe of Ephraim, 1

But chose the 1 The mount Zion which he loved. 1

And 1 Like the earth which he hath established forever. 1

He 1 And took him from the sheepfolds: 1

From 1 To be the shepherd of Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. 1

So he 1 And guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
