Proverbs 18
1Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh 1 And intermeddleth with all wisdom. 1
2A fool hath no delight in understanding, 1 But that his heart may discover itself. 1
3When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, 1 And with ignominy reproach. 1
4The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, 1 And the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook. 1
5It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, 1 To overthrow the righteous in judgment. 1
6A fool’s lips enter into contention, 1 And his mouth calleth for strokes. 1
7A fool’s mouth is his destruction, 1 And his lips are the snare of his soul. 1
8The words of a talebearer are as wounds, 1 And they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. 1
9He also that is slothful in his work 1 Is brother to him that is a great waster. 1
10The name of the Lord is a strong tower: 1 The righteous runneth into it, and is safe. 1
11The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, 1 And as a high wall in his own conceit. 1
12Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, 1 And before honour is humility. 1
13He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, 1 It is folly and shame unto him. 1
14The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; 1 But a wounded spirit who can bear? 1
15The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; 1 And the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge. 1
16A man’s gift maketh room for him, 1 And bringeth him before great men. 1
17He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; 1 But his neighbour cometh and searcheth him. 1
18The lot causeth contentions to cease, 1 And parteth between the mighty. 1
19A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: 1 And their contentions are like the bars of a castle. 1
20A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; 1 And with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. 1
21Death and life are in the power of the tongue: 1 And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. 1
22Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, 1 And obtaineth favour of the Lord. 1
23The poor useth intreaties; 1 But the rich answereth roughly. 1
24A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: 1 And there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
