Proverbs 4

Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, 1 And attend to know understanding. 1

For I give you good doctrine, 1 Forsake you not my law. 1

For I was my father’s son, 1 Tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. 1

He taught me also, and said unto me, 1 Let thine heart retain my words: 1 Keep my commandments, and live. 1

Get wisdom, get understanding: 1 Forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. 1

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: 1 Love her, and she shall keep thee. 1

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: 1 And with all thy getting get understanding. 1

Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: 1 She shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. 1

She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: 1 A crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. 1

Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; 1 And the years of thy life shall be many. 1

I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; 1 I have led thee in right paths. 1

When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; 1 And when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. 1

Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: 1 Keep her; for she is thy life. 1

Enter not into the path of the wicked, 1 And go not in the way of evil men. 1

Avoid it, pass not by it, 1 Turn from it, and pass away. 1

For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; 1 And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. 1

For they eat the bread of wickedness, 1 And drink the wine of violence. 1

But the path of the just is as the shining light, 1 That shineth more and more unto the perfect day. 1

The way of the wicked is as darkness: 1 They know not at what they stumble. 1

My son, attend to my words; 1 Incline thine ear unto my sayings. 1

Let them not depart from thine eyes; 1 Keep them in the midst of thine heart. 1

For they are life unto those that find them, 1 And health to all their flesh. 1

Keep thy heart with all diligence; 1 For out of it are the issues of life. 1

Put away from thee a froward mouth, 1 And perverse lips put far from thee. 1

Let thine eyes look right on, 1 And let thine eyelids look straight before thee. 1

Ponder the path of thy feet, 1 And let all thy ways be established. 1

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: 1 Remove thy foot from evil.
