Proverbs 7

My son, keep my words, 1 And lay up my commandments with thee. 1

Keep my commandments, and live; 1 And my law as the apple of thine eye. 1

Bind them upon thy fingers, 1 Write them upon the table of thine heart. 1

Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; 1 And call understanding thy kinswoman: 1

That they may keep thee from the strange woman, 1 From the stranger which flattereth with her words. 1

For at the window of my house 1 I looked through my casement, 1

And beheld among the simple ones, 1 I discerned among the youths, 1 A young man void of understanding, 1

Passing through the street near her corner; 1 And he went the way to her house, 1

In the twilight, in the evening, 1 In the black and dark night: 1

And behold, there met him a woman 1 With the attire of a harlot, and subtil of heart. 1

(She is loud and stubborn; 1 Her feet abide not in her house: 1

Now is she without, now in the streets, 1 And lieth in wait at every corner.) 1

So she caught him, and kissed him, 1 And with an impudent face said unto him, 1

I have peace offerings with me; 1 This day have I payed my vows. 1

Therefore came I forth to meet thee, 1 Diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee. 1

I have deckt my bed with coverings of tapestry, 1 With carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. 1

I have perfumed my bed 1 With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. 1

Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: 1 Let us solace ourselves with loves. 1

For the goodman is not at home, 1 He is gone a long journey: 1

He hath taken a bag of money with him, 1 And will come home at the day appointed. 1

With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, 1 With the flattering of her lips she forced him. 1

He goeth after her straightway, 1 As an ox goeth to the slaughter, 1 Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; 1

Till a dart strike through his liver; 1 As a bird hasteth to the snare, 1 And knoweth not that it is for his life. 1

Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, 1 And attend to the words of my mouth. 1

Let not thine heart decline to her ways, 1 Go not astray in her paths. 1

For she hath cast down many wounded: 1 Yea, many strong men have been slain by her. 1

Her house is the way to hell, 1 Going down to the chambers of death.
