Proverbs 20
1Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: 1 And whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. 1
2The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: 1 Whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul. 1
3It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: 1 But every fool will be meddling. 1
4The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; 1 Therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing. 1
5Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; 1 But a man of understanding will draw it out. 1
6Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: 1 But a faithful man who can find? 1
7The just man walketh in his integrity: 1 His children are blessed after him. 1
8A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment 1 Scattereth away all evil with his eyes. 1
9Who can say, I have made my heart clean, 1 I am pure from my sin? 1
10Divers weights, and divers measures, 1 Both of them are alike abomination to the Lord. 1
11Even a child is known by his doings, 1 Whether his work be pure, and whether it be right. 1
12The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, 1 The Lord hath made even both of them. 1
13Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; 1 Open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread. 1
14It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: 1 But when he is gone his way, then he boasteth. 1
15There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: 1 But the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel. 1
16Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: 1 And take a pledge of him for a strange woman. 1
17Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; 1 But afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel. 1
18Every purpose is established by counsel: 1 And with good advice make war. 1
19He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: 1 Therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips. 1
20Whoso curseth his father or his mother, 1 His lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness. 1
21An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; 1 But the end thereof shall not be blessed. 1
22Say not thou, I will recompense evil; 1 But wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee. 1
23Divers weights are an abomination unto the Lord; 1 And a false balance is not good. 1
24Man’s goings are of the Lord; 1 How can a man then understand his own way? 1
25It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, 1 And after vows to make inquiry. 1
26A wise king scattereth the wicked, 1 And bringeth the wheel over them. 1
27The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, 1 Searching all the inward parts of the belly. 1
28Mercy and truth preserve the king: 1 And his throne is upholden by mercy. 1
29The glory of young men is their strength: 1 And the beauty of old men is the gray head. 1
30The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: 1 So do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
