Job 21
But Job answered and said, 1
Hear diligently my speech, 1 And let this be your consolations. 1
Suffer me that I may speak; 1 And after that I have spoken, mock on. 1
As for me, is my complaint to man? 1 And if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled? 1
Mark me, and be astonished, 1 And lay your hand upon your mouth. 1
Even when I remember I am afraid, 1 And trembling taketh hold on my flesh. 1
Wherefore do the wicked live, 1 Become old, yea, are mighty in power? 1
Their seed is established in their sight with them, 1 And their offspring before their eyes. 1
Their houses are safe from fear, 1 Neither is the rod of God upon them. 1
Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; 1 Their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf. 1
They send forth their little ones like a flock, 1 And their children dance. 1
They take the timbrel and harp, 1 And rejoice at the sound of the organ. 1
They spend their days in wealth, 1 And in a moment go down to the grave. 1
Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; 1 For we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. 1
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? 1 And what profit should we have, if we pray unto him? 1
Lo, their good is not in their hand: 1 The counsel of the wicked is far from me. 1
How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! 1 And how oft cometh their destruction upon them! 1 God distributeth sorrows in his anger. 1
They are as stubble before the wind, 1 And as chaff that the storm carrieth away. 1
God layeth up his iniquity for his children: 1 He rewardeth him, and he shall know it. 1
His eyes shall see his destruction, 1 And he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty. 1
For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, 1 When the number of his months is cut off in the midst? 1
Shall any teach God knowledge? 1 Seeing he judgeth those that are high. 1
One dieth in his full strength, 1 Being wholly at ease and quiet. 1
His breasts are full of milk, 1 And his bones are moistened with marrow. 1
And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, 1 And never eateth with pleasure. 1
They shall lie down alike in the dust, 1 And the worms shall cover them. 1
Behold, I know your thoughts, 1 And the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me. 1
For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? 1 And where are the dwelling places of the wicked? 1
Have ye not asked them that go by the way? 1 And do ye not know their tokens, 1
That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? 1 They shall be brought forth to the day of wrath. 1
Who shall declare his way to his face? 1 And who shall repay him what he hath done? 1
Yet shall he be brought to the grave, 1 And shall remain in the tomb. 1
The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, 1 And every man shall draw after him, 1 As there are innumerable before him. 1
How then comfort ye me in vain, 1 Seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?
