Job · KJV Cambridge Paragraph

Job 33

Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, 1 And hearken to all my words. 1

Behold, now I have opened my mouth, 1 My tongue hath spoken in my mouth. 1

My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: 1 And my lips shall utter knowledge clearly. 1

The Spirit of God hath made me, 1 And the breath of the Almighty hath given me life. 1

If thou canst, answer me, 1 Set thy words in order before me, stand up. 1

Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s stead: 1 I also am formed out of the clay. 1

Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, 1 Neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee. 1

Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, 1 And I have heard the voice of thy words, saying, 1

I am clean without transgression, 1 I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me. 1

Behold, he findeth occasions against me, 1 He counteth me for his enemy, 1

He putteth my feet in the stocks, 1 He marketh all my paths. 1

Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, 1 That God is greater than man. 1

Why dost thou strive against him? 1 For he giveth not account of any of his matters. 1

For God speaketh once, 1 Yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. 1

In a dream, in a vision of the night, 1 When deep sleep falleth upon men, 1 In slumberings upon the bed; 1

Then he openeth the ears of men, 1 And sealeth their instruction, 1

That he may withdraw man from his purpose, 1 And hide pride from man. 1

He keepeth back his soul from the pit, 1 And his life from perishing by the sword. 1

He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, 1 And the multitude of his bones with strong pain: 1

So that his life abhorreth bread, 1 And his soul dainty meat. 1

His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; 1 And his bones that were not seen stick out. 1

Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, 1 And his life to the destroyers. 1

If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, 1 One among a thousand, 1 To shew unto man his uprightness: 1

Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, 1 Deliver him from going down to the pit: 1 I have found a ransom. 1

His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: 1 He shall return to the days of his youth: 1

He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: 1 And he shall see his face with joy: 1 For he will render unto man his righteousness. 1

He looketh upon men, and if any say, 1 I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, 1 And it profited me not; 1

He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, 1 And his life shall see the light. 1

Lo, all these things worketh God 1 Oftentimes with man, 1

To bring back his soul from the pit, 1 To be enlightened with the light of the living. 1

Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: 1 Hold thy peace, and I will speak. 1

If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: 1 Speak, for I desire to justify thee. 1

If not, hearken unto me: 1 Hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
