Job 28
Surely there is a vein for the silver, 1 And a place for gold where they fine it. 1
Iron is taken out of the earth, 1 And brass is molten out of the stone. 1
He setteth an end to darkness, 1 And searcheth out all perfection, 1 The stones of darkness, and the shadow of death. 1
The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; 1 Even the waters forgotten of the foot: 1 They are dried up, they are gone away from men. 1
As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: 1 And under it is turned up as it were fire. 1
The stones of it are the place of sapphires: 1 And it hath dust of gold. 1
There is a path which no fowl knoweth, 1 And which the vulture’s eye hath not seen: 1
The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, 1 Nor the fierce lion passed by it. 1
He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; 1 He overturneth the mountains by the roots. 1
He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; 1 And his eye seeth every precious thing. 1
He bindeth the floods from overflowing; 1 And the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light. 1
But where shall wisdom be found? 1 And where is the place of understanding? 1
Man knoweth not the price thereof; 1 Neither is it found in the land of the living. 1
The depth saith, It is not in me: 1 And the sea saith, It is not with me. 1
It cannot be gotten for gold, 1 Neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. 1
It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, 1 With the precious onyx, or the sapphire. 1
The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: 1 And the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. 1
No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: 1 For the price of wisdom is above rubies. 1
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, 1 Neither shall it be valued with pure gold. 1
Whence then cometh wisdom? 1 And where is the place of understanding? 1
Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, 1 And kept close from the fowls of the air. 1
Destruction and death say, 1 We have heard the fame thereof with our ears. 1
God understandeth the way thereof, 1 And he knoweth the place thereof. 1
For he looketh to the ends of the earth, 1 And seeth under the whole heaven; 1
To make the weight for the winds; 1 And he weigheth the waters by measure. 1
When he made a decree for the rain, 1 And a way for the lightning of the thunder: 1
Then did he see it, and declare it; 1 He prepared it, yea, and searched it out. 1
And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; 1 And to depart from evil is understanding.
