Job 24
Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, 1 Do they that know him not see his days? 1
Some remove the landmarks; 1 They violently take away flocks, and feed thereof. 1
They drive away the ass of the fatherless, 1 They take the widow’s ox for a pledge. 1
They turn the needy out of the way: 1 The poor of the earth hide themselves together. 1
Behold, as wild asses in the desert, 1 Go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: 1 The wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children. 1
They reap every one his corn in the field: 1 And they gather the vintage of the wicked. 1
They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, 1 That they have no covering in the cold. 1
They are wet with the showers of the mountains, 1 And embrace the rock for want of a shelter. 1
They pluck the fatherless from the breast, 1 And take a pledge of the poor. 1
They cause him to go naked without clothing, 1 And they take away the sheaf from the hungry; 1
Which make oil within their walls, 1 And tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst. 1
Men groan from out of the city, 1 And the soul of the wounded crieth out: 1 Yet God layeth not folly to them. 1
They are of those that rebel against the light; 1 They know not the ways thereof, 1 Nor abide in the paths thereof. 1
The murderer rising with the light 1 Killeth the poor and needy, 1 And in the night is as a thief. 1
The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, 1 Saying, No eye shall see me: 1 And disguiseth his face. 1
In the dark they dig through houses, 1 Which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: 1 They know not the light. 1
For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: 1 If one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death. 1
He is swift as the waters; 1 Their portion is cursed in the earth: 1 He beholdeth not the way of the vineyards. 1
Drought and heat consume the snow waters: 1 So doth the grave those which have sinned. 1
The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; 1 He shall be no more remembered; 1 And wickedness shall be broken as a tree. 1
He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: 1 And doeth not good to the widow. 1
He draweth also the mighty with his power: 1 He riseth up, and no man is sure of life. 1
Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; 1 Yet his eyes are upon their ways. 1
They are exalted for a little while, but are gone 1 And brought low, they are taken out of the way as all other, 1 And cut off as the tops of the ears of corn. 1
And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, 1 And make my speech nothing worth?
