Job 41
Canst thou draw out leviathan with a hook? 1 Or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down? 1
Canst thou put a hook into his nose? 1 Or bore his jaw through with a thorn? 1
Will he make many supplications unto thee? 1 Will he speak soft words unto thee? 1
Will he make a covenant with thee? 1 Wilt thou take him for a servant for ever? 1
Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? 1 Or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens? 1
Shall the companions make a banquet of him? 1 Shall they part him among the merchants? 1
Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? 1 Or his head with fish spears? 1
Lay thine hand upon him, 1 Remember the battle, do no more. 1
Behold, the hope of him is in vain: 1 Shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him? 1
None is so fierce that dare stir him up: 1 Who then is able to stand before me? 1
Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? 1 Whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine. 1
I will not conceal his parts, 1 Nor his power, nor his comely proportion. 1
Who can discover the face of his garment? 1 Or who can come to him with his double bridle? 1
Who can open the doors of his face? 1 His teeth are terrible round about. 1
His scales are his pride, 1 Shut up together as with a close seal. 1
One is so near to another, 1 That no air can come between them. 1
They are joined one to another, 1 They stick together, that they cannot be sundered. 1
By his neesings a light doth shine, 1 And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. 1
Out of his mouth go burning lamps, 1 And sparks of fire leap out. 1
Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, 1 As out of a seething pot or caldron. 1
His breath kindleth coals, 1 And a flame goeth out of his mouth. 1
In his neck remaineth strength, 1 And sorrow is turned into joy before him. 1
The flakes of his flesh are joined together: 1 They are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved. 1
His heart is as firm as a stone; 1 Yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone. 1
When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: 1 By reason of breakings they purify themselves. 1
The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: 1 The spear, the dart, nor the habergeon. 1
He esteemeth iron as straw, 1 And brass as rotten wood. 1
The arrow cannot make him flee: 1 Slingstones are turned with him into stubble. 1
Darts are counted as stubble: 1 He laugheth at the shaking of a spear. 1
Sharp stones are under him: 1 He spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire. 1
He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: 1 He maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. 1
He maketh a path to shine after him; 1 One would think the deep to be hoary. 1
Upon earth there is not his like, 1 Who is made without fear. 1
He beholdeth all high things: 1 He is a king over all the children of pride.
