Job · KJV Cambridge Paragraph

Job 36

Elihu also proceeded, and said, 1

Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee 1 That I have yet to speak on God’s behalf. 1

I will fetch my knowledge from afar, 1 And will ascribe righteousness to my Maker. 1

For truly my words shall not be false: 1 He that is perfect in knowledge is with thee. 1

Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: 1 He is mighty in strength and wisdom. 1

He preserveth not the life of the wicked: 1 But giveth right to the poor. 1

He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: 1 But with kings are they on the throne; 1 Yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted. 1

And if they be bound in fetters, 1 And be holden in cords of affliction; 1

Then he sheweth them their work, 1 And their transgressions that they have exceeded. 1

He openeth also their ear to discipline, 1 And commandeth that they return from iniquity. 1

If they obey and serve him, 1 They shall spend their days in prosperity, 1 And their years in pleasures. 1

But if they obey not, 1 They shall perish by the sword, 1 And they shall die without knowledge. 1

But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: 1 They cry not when he bindeth them. 1

They die in youth, 1 And their life is among the unclean. 1

He delivereth the poor in his affliction, 1 And openeth their ears in oppression. 1

Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait 1 Into a broad place, where there is no straitness; 1 And that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness. 1

But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: 1 Judgment and justice take hold on thee. 1

Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: 1 Then a great ransom cannot deliver thee. 1

Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, 1 Nor all the forces of strength. 1

Desire not the night, 1 When people are cut off in their place. 1

Take heed, regard not iniquity: 1 For this hast thou chosen rather than affliction. 1

Behold, God exalteth by his power: 1 Who teacheth like him? 1

Who hath enjoined him his way? 1 Or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity? 1

Remember that thou magnify his work, 1 Which men behold. 1

Every man may see it; 1 Man may behold it afar off. 1

Behold, God is great, and we know him not, 1 Neither can the number of his years be searched out. 1

For he maketh small the drops of water: 1 They pour down rain according to the vapour thereof: 1

Which the clouds do drop 1 And distil upon man abundantly. 1

Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, 1 Or the noise of his tabernacle? 1

Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, 1 And covereth the bottom of the sea. 1

For by them judgeth he the people; 1 He giveth meat in abundance. 1

With clouds he covereth the light; 1 And commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt. 1

The noise thereof sheweth concerning it, 1 The cattle also concerning the vapour.
