Job · KJV Cambridge Paragraph

Job 6

But Job answered and said, 1

Oh that my grief were throughly weighed, 1 And my calamity laid in the balances together! 1

For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: 1 Therefore my words are swallowed up. 1

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, 1 The poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: 1 The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me. 1

Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? 1 Or loweth the ox over his fodder? 1

Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? 1 Or is there any taste in the white of an egg? 1

The things that my soul refused to touch 1 Are as my sorrowful meat. 1

O that I might have my request; 1 And that God would grant me the thing that I long for! 1

Even that it would please God to destroy me: 1 That he would let loose his hand, and cut me off! 1

Then should I yet have comfort; 1 Yea, I would harden myself in sorrow; let him not spare: 1 For I have not concealed the words of the Holy One. 1

What is my strength, that I should hope? 1 And what is mine end, that I should prolong my life? 1

Is my strength the strength of stones? 1 Or is my flesh of brass? 1

Is not my help in me? 1 And is wisdom driven quite from me? 1

To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; 1 But he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty. 1

My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, 1 And as the stream of brooks they pass away; 1

Which are blackish by reason of the ice, 1 And wherein the snow is hid: 1

What time they wax warm, they vanish: 1 When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place. 1

The paths of their way are turned aside; 1 They go to nothing, and perish. 1

The troops of Tema looked, 1 The companies of Sheba waited for them. 1

They were confounded because they had hoped; 1 They came thither, and were ashamed. 1

For now ye are nothing; 1 Ye see my casting down, and are afraid. 1

Did I say, Bring unto me? 1 Or, Give a reward for me of your substance? 1

Or, Deliver me from the enemy’s hand? 1 Or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty? 1

Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: 1 And cause me to understand wherein I have erred. 1

How forcible are right words! 1 But what doth your arguing reprove? 1

Do ye imagine to reprove words, 1 And the speeches of one that is desperate, which are as wind? 1

Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, 1 And you dig a pit for your friend. 1

Now therefore be content, look upon me; 1 For it is evident unto you if I lie. 1

Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; 1 Yea, return again, my righteousness is in it. 1

Is there iniquity in my tongue? 1 Cannot my taste discern perverse things?
