Job · KJV Cambridge Paragraph

Job 4

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, 1

If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? 1 But who can withhold himself from speaking? 1

Behold, thou hast instructed many, 1 And thou hast strengthened the weak hands. 1

Thy words have upholden him that was falling, 1 And thou hast strengthened the feeble knees. 1

But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; 1 It toucheth thee, and thou art troubled. 1

Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, 1 Thy hope; and the uprightness of thy ways? 1

Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? 1 Or where were the righteous cut off? 1

Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, 1 And sow wickedness, reap the same. 1

By the blast of God they perish, 1 And by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed. 1

The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, 1 And the teeth of the young lions, are broken. 1

The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, 1 And the stout lion’s whelps are scattered abroad. 1

Now a thing was secretly brought to me, 1 And mine ear received a little thereof. 1

In thoughts from the visions of the night, 1 When deep sleep falleth on men. 1

Fear came upon me, and trembling, 1 Which made all my bones to shake. 1

Then a spirit passed before my face; 1 The hair of my flesh stood up: 1

It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: 1 An image was before mine eyes, 1 There was silence, and I heard a voice, saying, 1

Shall mortal man be more just than God? 1 Shall a man be more pure than his Maker? 1

Behold, he put no trust in his servants; 1 And his angels he charged with folly: 1

How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, 1 Whose foundation is in the dust, 1 Which are crushed before the moth? 1

They are destroyed from morning to evening: 1 They perish for ever without any regarding it. 1

Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? 1 They die, even without wisdom.
