Job 14

Adam that is born of isha 1 is of few yamim and full of rogez (unrest). 1

He cometh forth like a tzitz (flower), and is cut down; 1 he fleeth also as a tzel, and continueth not. 1

And doth Thou open Thine eyes upon such a one, 1 and bringest me into mishpat with Thee? 1

Who can bring a tahor (clean thing) out of a tameh (an unclean)? + 14:4 cf. Ro 5:12 1 Loh echad (No one). 1

Seeing his yamim are determined, 1 the number of his chodashim (months) are with Thee, 1 Thou hast appointed his limits that he cannot exceed. 1

Turn from him, that he may rest, 1 till he shall accomplish, as a sachir (a hired man), his day. 1

For there is tikveh of an etz, 1 if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, 1 and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. 1

Though the shoresh (root) thereof grow old in ha'aretz, 1 and the stump thereof die in the aphar (dust), 1

Yet through the scent of mayim it will bud, 1 and bring forth branches like a young plant. 1

But gever dieth, and wasteth away; 1 yea, adam breathes his last, and where is he? 1

As the mayim flow away from the yam, 1 and the nahar (stream) becomes parched and drieth up, 1

So ish lieth down, and riseth not, 1 till Shomayim be no more, they shall not awake, 1 nor be raised out of their sleep. 1

O that Thou wouldest hide me in Sheol, 1 that Thou wouldest conceal me until Thy wrath has passed, 1 that Thou wouldest appoint me a chok (set time), and remember me! 1

If a gever die, shall he live again? 1 All the days of my tzava (hard army service) will I wait, 1 till my chalifah (changing, renewal) come. 1

Thou shalt call, and I will answer Thee; 1 Thou wilt have a desire for the ma'aseh (work) of Thine hands. 1

For now Thou countest my steps. 1 Dost Thou not watch over my chattat? 1

My peysha is sealed up in a bag, 1 and Thou would cover over mine avon. 1

And surely the har (mountain) falling crumbles, 1 and the tzur (rock) is moved out of its place. 1

The mayim wear away the avanim; 1 Thou washest away the things which grow out of the aphar aretz; 1 and Thou destroyest the tikvat enosh. 1

Thou prevailest lanetzach (forever) against him, and he passeth away; 1 Thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away. 1

His banim come to honor, and he knoweth it not; 1 and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them. 1

Only his basar shall have pain upon him, 1 and his nefesh within him shall mourn.
