Job 28

Surely there is a mine for the kesef, 1 and a makom for zahav where they refine it. 1

Barzel (iron) is taken out of aphar, 1 and nechoshet is smelted out of the even (stone, ore). 1

He setteth a ketz to choshech, 1 and searcheth out all extremities, 1 the even (ore) of darkness and tzalmavet. 1

He cuts out a shaft down far from the inhabitant; 1 forgotten of the regel, 1 they dangle, suspended, away from enosh. 1

As for eretz, out of it cometh lechem, 1 and under it is transformed as by eish. 1

The stones of it are the makom of the sapphire, 1 and it hath ore of zahav. 1

There is a hidden path of which no bird of prey has da'as, 1 and which the falconʼs eye hath not seen. 1

The proud beasts have not trodden it, 1 nor the shachal (lionʼs cub) passed over it. 1

He [the miner] putteth forth his yad upon the rock; 1 he upturneth the mountains by the shoresh. 1

He cutteth out channels through the tzurot (rocks), 1 and his eye seeth every precious thing. 1

He dams up the streams from flowing, 1 and the thing that is hidden bringeth he forth to ohr. 1

But where shall chochmah be found? 1 And where is the makom binah? 1

Enosh knoweth not the price thereof; 1 neither is it found in the Eretz HaChayyim. 1

The tehom (abyss) saith, It is not in me; 1 and the yam saith, It is not with me. 1

It cannot be gotten in exchange for fine gold, 1 neither shall kesef be weighed for the price thereof. 1

It cannot be valued with the fine gold of Ophir, 1 with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. 1

The zahav and the crystal cannot equal it, 1 and the exchange of it shall not be for the jewel of gold. 1

Nor shall mention be made of coral or crystal, 1 for the price of chochmah is above pearls. 1

The chrysolite of Ethiopia shall not equal it, 1 neither shall it be valued with tahor gold. 1

From where then cometh chochmah? 1 And where is the makom binah? 1

Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of kol chai, 1 and concealed from the oph HaShomayim. 1

Abaddon and Mavet say, 1 We have heard a rumor thereof with our ears. 1

Elohim understandeth the way to it, 1 and He knoweth the makom thereof. 1

For He looketh to the ketzot ha'aretz, 1 and seeth all under Shomayim. 1

The weight He appointed for the ruach, 1 and He weigheth the mayim by measure. 1

When He made a decree for the matar, 1 and a derech for the lightning of the thunder, 1

Az (then) did He see it, and declare it; 1 He prepared it, yea, and searched it out. 1

And unto adam He said, 1 See, the Yirat Adonoi, that is chochmah, 1 and to depart from rah is binah.
