Job 19

Then Iyov answered and said, 1

How long will ye torment my nefesh, 1 and crush me with words? 1

These ten times have ye reproached me; 1 ye have no bushah that ye cause me astonishment. 1

And be it indeed that I have erred, 1 mine meshugah (error) remaineth with myself. 1

If indeed ye will magnify yourselves above me, 1 and use against me my cherpah (reproach, humiliation), 1

Have da'as now that Eloah hath put me in the wrong, 1 and hath encompassed me with his matzud (net). 1

Behold, when I cry chamas, I am not heard; 1 I cry for help, but there is no mishpat. 1

He hath fenced around my way that I cannot pass, 1 and set choshech in my paths. 1

He hath stripped me of my kavod, 1 and taken the ateret from my rosh. 1

He breaks me down on every side till I am gone, 1 and mine tikveh hath He uprooted like an etz. 1

He hath also kindled His wrath against me, 1 and He counteth me unto Him as His tzar (enemy). 1

His forces come together, 1 and raise up their siege ramp against me, 1 and encamp around my ohel. 1

He hath put achai (my brethren) far from me, 1 and mine acquaintances are verily estranged from me. 1

My kerov (near and dear) have failed, 1 and my familiar friends have forgotten me. 1

They that dwell in mine bais, and my maidservants, count me for a zar; 1 I am a nokhri in their sight. 1

I summoned avdi, and he gave me no answer; 1 I entreated him with my mouth. 1

My ruach is repulsive to my isha, 1 loathsome to bnei beten of mine. 1

Even avilim (little children) treat me with contempt; 1 I appear, and they ridicule me. 1

All my metei sod (confidants) detest me, 1 and they whom I loved are turned against me. 1

My etzem cleaveth to my ohr (skin) 1 and to my basar, 1 and I am escaped only by the skin of my teeth. 1

Channuni, channuni, 1 O ye my friends; 1 for the yad Eloah hath touched me. 1

Why do ye persecute me like El, 1 not satisfied with my basar? 1

Oh that my words were but written! 1 O that they were recorded in a sefer! 1

That they were engraved with a pen of barzel 1 and with oferet (lead) in the tzur forever! 1

For Ani yadati Goeli chai (I know that my Redeemer liveth), 1 and that he shall stand up at Acharon (at the Last) upon aphar (dust, the earth); 1

And though after my ohr (skin) has been thus destroyed, 1 yet from my basar I shall see Eloah; 1

Whom I shall see for myself, 1 and mine eyes shall behold and no other; 1 my heart faints within me. 1

But ye think, How we will persecute him, 1 seeing the shoresh (root) of the matter is found in me? 1

Be ye afraid of the cherev; 1 for wrath bringeth the avonot (punishments) of the cherev, 1 that ye may know there is a judgment.
