Job 8
1Then answered Bildad the Shuchi, and said, 1
2How long wilt thou speak these things? 1 And how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a raging ruach (wind)? 1
3Doth El pervert mishpat (justice)? 1 Or doth Shaddai pervert tzedek? 1
4If thy banim have sinned against Him, 1 and He have cast them away for their peysha (transgression); 1
5If thou wouldest seek El (G-d) earnestly, 1 and make thy techinnah (supplication) to Shaddai; 1
6If thou wert pure and yashar; 1 surely now He would rouse Himself for thee, 1 and restore the habitation of thy tzedek. 1
7Though thy reshit (beginning) was small, 1 yet thy acharit (end) shall be exceedingly great. 1
8For inquire, now, of the dor rishon (former age), 1 and consider the research of their avot; 1
9— For we are but of temol (yesterday, etmol) and know nothing, 1 because yameinu (our days) upon earth are a tzel (shadow) — 1
10Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, 1 and bring forth words out of their lev? 1
11Can the papyrus grow up without marsh? 1 Can the reed grow without mayim? 1
12Whilst it is yet in its greenness, and not cut down, 1 it withereth before kol khatzir (all grass). 1
13So are the paths of all that forget El (G-d), 1 and the tikvat chanef (hope of the hypocrite, the irreligious, the secretly wicked profane person) shall perish, 1
14Whose hope shall be cut off, 1 and whose reliance shall be a bais akavish (spiderʼs web). 1
15He shall lean upon his bais, 1 but it shall not stand, 1 he shall cling to it, 1 but it shall not hold. 1
16He is like a green plant before the shemesh, 1 and its branch shooteth forth in its gan (garden). 1
17Its shorashim (roots) are wrapped about the rock heap, 1 and it looks on the bais avanim (place of stones). 1
18But when cast away from its makom, 1 then its place shall deny it, saying, Loh re'iticha (I never saw thee). 1
19Behold, thus was the joy of its derech, 1 and others spring forth from the aphar (dust). 1
20Surely El (G-d) will not cast away a blameless man, 1 neither will He help the resha'im (evil-doers); 1
21Till He fill thy mouth with sechok (laughter), 1 and thy lips with teruah (shouts of joy). 1
22They that hate thee shall be clothed with bushah (shame), 1 and the ohel resha'im shall be no more.
