Job 38
1Then Hashem answered Iyov out of the whirlwind, 1 and said, 1
2Who is this that darkeneth etzah (counsel) 1 with words without da'as? 1
3Gird up now thy loins like a gever; 1 for I will ask of thee, and thou wilt answer Me. 1
4Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of eretz? 1 Tell, if thou hast binah. 1
5Who hath drafted the dimensions thereof, if thou hast da'as? 1 Or who hath stretched a measuring line across it? 1
6Whereupon are the foundations thereof set? 1 Or who laid the even-pinnah (cornerstone) thereof, 1
7When the kokhvei boker sang together, 1 and all the Bnei Elohim shouted for joy? 1
8Or who shut up the yam behind doors? 1 Who brought it forth, issuing out of the rekhem (womb), 1
9When I made the anan the garment thereof, 1 and thick darkness its swaddling band, 1
10And fixed bounds for it, 1 and set bars and dlatot (doors), 1
11And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further; 1 and poh (here) shall thy proud waves be stopped? 1
12Hast thou commanded the boker since thy yamim began; 1 or caused the shachar (dawn) to know its place; 1
13That it might seize the ends of ha'aretz, 1 that the resha'im be shaken out of it? 1
14It is changed like chomer (clay) under the khotam (seal); 1 and they stand out like a garment. 1
15And from the resha'im their ohr is denied, 1 and the upraised zero'a shall be broken. 1
16Hast thou entered into the springs of the yam? 1 Or hast thou walked in the recesses of the tehom? 1
17Have the sha'arei mavet been disclosed unto thee? 1 Or hast thou seen the sha'arei tzalmavet? 1
18Hast thou perceived the expanse of eretz? 1 Tell Me if thou hast da'as of it all. 1
19Where is the derech where ohr dwelleth? 1 And as for choshech, where is the place thereof, 1
20That thou shouldest take it to its border, 1 and that thou shouldest have da'as of the paths to its bais? 1
21Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? 1 Or because the mispar of thy yamim is so great? 1
22Hast thou entered into the otzrot (storehouses) of the snow? 1 Or hast thou seen the otzrot of barad (hail), 1
23Which I have reserved for the time of tzar, 1 for the yom kerav (battle) and milchamah (war)? 1
24Which is the derech where the ohr is distributed, 1 where is scattered the east wind upon eretz? 1
25Who hath cut a channel for the overflowing of waters, 1 or a derech for the lightning of thunder, 1
26To cause it to rain on eretz, where lo ish is; 1 on midbar, wherein there is lo adam; 1
27To saturate a desolate and waste ground; 1 and to cause the bud of the desheh to spring forth? 1
28Hath the rain an av? 1 Or who hath begotten the drops of tal (dew)? 1
29Out of whose beten cometh the ice? 1 And the frost of Shomayim, who giveth birth to it? 1
30The mayim harden like even (stone), 1 and the face of tehom is frozen. 1
31Canst thou bind the chains of the Pleiades, 1 or loose the bonds of Orion? 1
32Canst thou bring forth Mazzarot in their times? 1 Or canst thou guide the Bear with its banim? 1
33Knowest thou the chukkot of Shomayim? 1 Canst thou set the rule over ha'aretz? 1
34Canst thou lift up thy kol (voice) to the clouds, 1 that abundance of mayim may cover thee? 1
35Canst thou send lightning bolts, that they may go 1 and say unto thee, Hineinu (here we are)? 1
36Who hath put chochmah in the inward parts, 1 or who hath given binah to the mind? 1
37Who can number the clouds in chochmah, 1 or who can tip the waterskins of Shomayim, 1
38When the dust hardens into a clump, 1 and the clods cleave fast together? 1
39Wilt thou hunt the teref for the lioness, 1 or fill the appetite of her whelps, 1
40When they crouch in their me'onot (dens), 1 and abide in the lair to lie in ambush? 1
41Who provideth for the raven his food? 1 When his young ones cry unto El, 1 they wander about for lack of okhel.
