Job 40
1Moreover Hashem answered Iyov, and said, 1
2Shall he that contendeth with Shaddai correct him? 1 The mokhiach Eloah (rebuker of G-d), let him answer it. 1
3Then Iyov answered Hashem, and said, 1
4See, I am vile; what shall I answer Thee? 1 I will lay mine yad upon my mouth. 1
5Once have I spoken, but I will not answer; 1 yea, shtayim (twice), but I will proceed no further. 1
6Then answered Hashem unto Iyov out of the whirlwind, and said, 1
7Gird up thy loins now like a gever. 1 I will question thee, and thou shall answer Me. 1
8Wilt thou also annul My mishpat (justice)? 1 Wilt thou condemn Me, that thou mayest be justified? 1
9Hast thou a zero'a like El? 1 Or canst thou thunder with a kol (voice) like Him? 1
10Adorn thyself now with majesty and excellency; 1 and array thyself with hod (glory) and hadar (splendor). 1
11Unleash thy evrot af (furious wrath); 1 and behold every one that is proud, and bring him low. 1
12Look on every one that is proud, and humble him, 1 and tread down the resha'im in their place. 1
13Bury them in the aphar together; 1 shroud their faces in the crypt. 1
14Then odecha (will I confess, admit unto thee) 1 that thine own right hand can save thee. 1
15Hinei now behemot (hippopotamus), which I made along with thee; 1 he eateth grass like an ox. 1
16Hinei now, his koach is in his loins, 1 and his force is in the sinews of his beten (belly). 1
17He moveth his zanav (tail) like a cedar branch; 1 the sinews of his thighs are firmly interwoven. 1
18His atzmot are like tubes of nechoshet; 1 his limbs are like rods of barzel (iron). 1
19He is the reshit (firstling) of the ways of El; 1 He, his Maker, can approach it with His cherev. 1
20Surely the harim bring forth food for him, 1 where all the wild beasts play. 1
21He lieth under the shade of lotus plants, 1 beseter (in the covert) of the reed and marsh. 1
22The lotus plants cover him with their shadow; 1 the willows by the nakhal (brook, stream) surround him. 1
23See, when the nahar (river) rages, he is not alarmed; 1 he is confident, though Yarden breaketh forth upon his mouth. 1
24While he is looking can one capture him? 1 With mokeshim (hooks) can one pierce his nose? 1
25Canst thou draw out Leviathan with a khakah (fishhook)? 1 Or tie down his leshon with a cord? 1
26Canst thou put a hook into his af (nose)? 1 Or bore his jaw through with a barb? 1
27Will he make many tachanunim unto thee? 1 Will he speak soft words unto thee? 1
28Will he make a brit (covenant) with thee? 1 Wilt thou take him for an eved olam? 1
29Wilt thou play with him as with a pet bird? 1 Or wilt thou leash him for thy na'arot (maidens)? 1
30Shall traders barter for him? 1 Shall they divide him among the Kena'anim (Canaanites, merchants)? 1
31Canst thou fill his ohr (skin) with harpoons? 1 Or his head with fishing spears? 1
32Lay thine hand upon him; remember the milchamah. 1 Thou wilt not do it more.
