Job 4
Then Eliphaz the Temani answered and said, 1
If we attempt a davar with thee, wilt thou be offended? 1 But who can withhold himself from speaking? 1
Hinei, thou hast instructed rabbim (many), 1 and thou hast strengthened the weak hands. 1
Thy words have upheld him that was falling, 1 and thou hast strengthened the feeble birkayim (knees). 1
But atah (now) it is come upon thee, and thou art impatient; 1 it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled. 1
Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, 1 thy tikveh, and the blamelessness of thy ways? 1
Consider now, who ever perished, being naki (innocent)? 1 Or where were the yesharim (upright ones) cut off? 1
Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, 1 and sow amal (trouble), reap the same. 1
By the neshamah (breath) of Eloah they perish, 1 and by the ruach of His nostrils are they consumed. 1
The roaring of the aryeh, and the voice of the fierce lion, 1 and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. 1
The old lion perisheth for lack of teref (prey), 1 and the stout lionʼs cubs are scattered. 1
Now a davar was secretly brought to me, 1 and mine ear received a whisper thereof. 1
In thoughts from the chezyonot lailah, 1 when tardemah (deep sleep) falleth on anashim, 1
Pachad came upon me, and trembling, 1 which made all my atzmot to shake. 1
Then a ruach passed before my face; 1 the hair of my basar stood up; 1
It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof; 1 a temunah (form) was before mine eyes, 1 there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying, 1
Shall enosh (mortal man) be seen as righteous by Eloah? 1 Shall a man be tahor before his Maker? + 4:17 See Gn 15:6 1
Behold, He puts no trust in His avadim, 1 and His malachim (angels) He charged with toholah (error). 1
How much more them that dwell in batim (houses) of clay, 1 whose yesod (foundation, origin) is in the dust, 1 which are crushed like the moth? 1
They are destroyed from boker to erev; 1 they perish forever without any regarding it. 1
Is not the cord of their tent which is in them pulled up? 1 They die, even without chochmah (wisdom).
