Job 21
1But Iyov answered and said, 1
2Hear diligently my speech, 1 and let this be your tanechumot (consolations). 1
3Bear with me that I may speak; 1 and achar (after) that I have spoken, mock on. 1
4As for me, is my complaint to adam (mortals)? 1 Or why should my ruach not become impatient? 1
5Look at me, and be astonished, 1 and lay your yad upon your peh (mouth). 1
6Even when I remember I am afraid, 1 and trembling taketh hold on my basar. 1
7Madu'a (why) do the resha'im live, 1 become old, yea, are mighty in power? 1
8Their zera is established in their sight with them, 1 and their offspring before their eyes. 1
9Their batim (houses) are shalom from pachad; 1 neither is the shevet Eloah upon them. 1
10Their shor (bull) breeds, and faileth not; 1 their cow calveth, and doth not miscarry her calf. 1
11They send forth their little ones like a tzon, 1 and their yeladim jump about. 1
12They sing to the tambourine and kinnor, 1 and rejoice at the sound of the flute. 1
13They spend their yamim in tov, 1 and in a moment go down to Sheol. 1
14Therefore they say unto El, Depart from us; 1 for we desire not the da'as of Thy ways. 1
15What is Shaddai, that we should serve Him? 1 And what profit should we have, if we importune Him? 1
16Lo, their tov is not in their yad; 1 the etzah (counsel, scheme) of the resha'im is far from me. 1
17How oft is the ner (light) of the resha'im put out! 1 And how oft cometh their destruction upon them 1 and He distributeth pains in His anger. 1
18They are as straw before the ruach, 1 and as chaff that the storm carrieth away. 1
19Eloah layeth up his iniquity for his banim; 1 He payeth him back, and he shall know it. 1
20His eyes shall see his destruction, 1 and he shall drink of the wrath of Shaddai. 1
21For what pleasure hath he in his bais after him, 1 when the mispar (number) of his months is cut off? 1
22Shall any teach El da'as, 1 seeing He judgeth those that are on high? 1
23Zeh (this one) dieth in his full prosperity, 1 being wholly at ease and secure. 1
24His troughs are full of cholov, 1 and his atzmot are moistened with marrow. 1
25And another dieth in the marah (bitterness) of his nefesh, 1 and never eateth with pleasure. 1
26They shall lie down alike in the aphar, 1 and the worms shall cover them. 1
27Behold, I know your machshevot, 1 and the stratagems which ye wrongfully imagine against me. 1
28For ye say, Where is the bais of the tyrant? 1 And where are the ohel mishkenot of the resha'im? 1
29Have ye not asked them that travel the derech? 1 And do ye not accept their testimony, 1
30That the rah is spared in the yom eid (day of calamity)? 1 They shall be rescued in the yom avarot (day of wrath). 1
31Who shall declare his derech to his face? 1 And who shall repay him what he hath done? 1
32Yet shall he be brought to the grave, 1 and shall remain in the gadish (gravemound). 1
33The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, 1 and kol adam shall draw after him, 1 as there are innumerable before him. 1
34How then comfort ye me with hevel (empty nothings), 1 seeing in your answers there is nothing left but falsehood?
